Although I'd love to see someone try to make my kid see logic in 'a small dog (or any dog) not ripping her face off' and convincing her that her fear is irrational and just a 'mental issue.' Last edited by BamaFan121s; 03-08-2010 at 06:37 PM.

My son is deathly afraid of spiders, since he was a toddler, he is 21 now and still has that fear. Its also a real fear, but people really enjoying making a joke of that kind of fear. No reason to get upset and take it personally..

| Senior Yorkie Talker | Pay her no attention! small minded I say! I met a lady on the beach this last weekend walking her 3 dogs - 2 Miniture Collies and a Jack Russell mix and she tells me they are in the area for a dog agility competition...You'd think she's be SLIGHTLY educated then hey? well she bent down, kinda cocked her head to the side, looked at my little Taylor with a look on her face like she had just smelled something gross and said to me "what is that?" THAT???? That's a dog you stupid woman! Then she says to me (becasue I was speechless) "isnt it one of those Chinese Hairless Dogs, but with hair?" My Yorkie has been clipped but she has hair and please tell me if she looks ANYTHING like a chinese hairless dog?!?!?!?! COME ON! that coming from someone who competes with dogs!

| Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I'm going to throw in my 1 cent...I have a friend who is not a dog person. He's big hearted in all ways and one of the nicest people I know...he was one of my 'rocks' when my husband died...I don't know what I'd have done without him..... When he comes to my home I do my best to accomodate him - which means I either hold my 2 or they have a little time in the bedroom - only because they want to climb all over him and he's got a fetish about wet noses and just pets in general. It's no secret how he feels and I understand it totally. I don't get offended because he's my guest ....and while this is THEIR home - I can't seem to get them to stay on the floor and leave him alone. It doesn't bother me to do this because the way I see it is it's MY fault for not training them better to 'stay' down...... The couch is their couch and anyone who sits on it is fair game ..(Cheri even climbed the back of the couch one time and managed to sneak a kiss on the back of his neck - then ran like her butt was on fire) ![]() ....but ...since I know he's very quirky in his 'fear' or 'dislike' of dogs, I just roll with it..... |

| Yep, I suppose I did take it a bit personally...although I didn't at first. I guess having a kid who HAS had her face nearly ripped off by a dog and who does now harbor a real fear on occasion when caught off guard by even small, harmless dogs... It's a bit difficult to find humor in a "joke" about how "irrational" it is...no matter how much 'people really enjoy' it. I guess maybe having been through that, I'm just a bit too sensitive and understanding of people who share that same fear. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 03-09-2010 at 05:21 AM. |

they WANT to check out everyone but I know not everyone likes dogs so in respect - I always give people the right of way.... unless they stop me and want to pet them - then it's ok .....Some people ARE scared but once they pet them and see they aren't going to 'go after' them - they walk away smiling now I do have people that will walk WAY out of the way when they see me coming and if I feel they're scared - I turn and go the other way .....no need to freak out my neighbors - I have to live among them !

And that poor baby will probably be a child that grows up with so many insecurities because mommy freaked out about it's toes being sniffed by a little Yorkie who is harmless. Who know how many other things she'll freak out about before that child is grown Insecure and overprotective parents like that have the children that will pull tails, kick, slap, and poke Yorkies with sticks and have no respect for animals. I've known people like that.

| I visited San Francisco about 10 years ago. My sister lived outside of the city and we took many walks to the Bart to visit the city. I still remember all the snails on the sidewalks, grass, plants everywhere. I wasn't afraid of them but I thought they were really GROSS! I never knew there were so many snails in California. We have the occasional snail during the summer months especially if has rained alot. So I totally understand your aversion to snails.
