| Sophie's tail was docked and I think it is adorable. But I think the full tails are adorable, too. If I were a breeder, I would most likely dock the tails to the breed standard for the Yorkies here in the US. I see your point, but I don't think it is detrimental to the pup to dock the tail. Thanks for letting me respectfully somewhat disagree! |

I like my yorkies tails docked.....especially for sanitary reasons. Think about how much garbage they could pick up on their tail fur when they are out and about if they were in medium to full length coat. It definately should be done by someone qualified and trained to do it in the most pain-free manner possible.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | No I don't think anyone is upset about your opinion, and you are always respectful of others opinions. I think people like you will change more minds than those who call us barbaric and inhumane. It upset me to be called these names including a "FREAK" just because I don't see anything that is that wrong with the practice. I'm so upset that we put millions of dogs to sleep each year, and breeders are breeding unhealthy dogs that will have to go through so much pain in their lives, and puppy millers and others are raising dogs in completely inhumane conditions, and yet people make such a big deal out of tail cropping. It just seems like the focus should be elsewhere.

| I agree with you, friscomom; the practice of tail docking is unnecessary. Who are humans to decide which breeds of dogs get to keep their tails? Puppies born with tails should not get them cut off. |

Sometimes I wonder why it was banned in England too. I did a little checking into the history, and a animal rights group came out with a booklet that showed many pictures of dogs whose tails really had been mutilated. In some cases the tails looked like they had been cut off further than the rump. It was disgusting to see a whole litter of pups with these mutilations. People were out-raged, and the laws were passed. I'm not sure where they got the pictures, and I really hope no one did this purposely so that people would be outraged, some people do believe that the end justifies the means. Sometimes, I believe that certain groups would like to get rid of show breeders. I think it's up to all of us to protect the better breeders including show breeders. Backyard breeders and puppy millers, probably would like to see docking outlawed, it's just a big inconvenience, and can cost them money. However, show breeders are like artists, and have been developing an eye for the breed, and opinions on what they see as perfection. Is it wrong for them to create visual perfection? I don't think so, as long as they aren't sacrificing health to do so. Now people tell them what they are doing is wrong and the standard needs to be changed. It's almost as if some people just want to see the whole showing thing stopped. Some are against purebreds, (I use to be one of those, I had only heard one side of the story), and some seem to be against humans owning pets of any kind. I've read so many breeders say that if done properly and at the right time, pups hardly notice at all, and because these are people who seem to genuinely love the breed, I believe what they are saying is true.

Thank YOU for being one of those people that I know genuinely love this breed along with those of us that try and practice what we preach and educate! You are to be applauded! Donna
