| Camping Hey, I know people bring their dogs camping but I never knew any yorkie owners that did so I'd like to gather some insights from other yorkie owners. Is it okay to bring yorkies out to camping? Do they need any necessary shots to go camping? My babies are 3 and 5 months, will they be okay? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks P.S. --- this is a random add-on question---- *how often are you suppose to brush yorkies' teeth? |

| Don't forget your rabies tag or certificate We took our 7 month old male and our new to us(of two weeks) 15 month old female camping to myrtle beack SC. I called and inquired of what was needed they told me proof of rabies shot would need to be kept with us. Makes sence. My males coat attracted the burrs like crazy, my female had no issues. We actually purchased a camper because of my male, I wouldn't leave him and I didn't want to stay at the places that would allow pets. He loved it, my darling sweet girl, went bonkers. She tore up one of the blinds, tore the screen out of the door, pee peed on my daughter and son-in-laws bed and pooped in their suitcase. The New Girl didn't score alot of points on this trip. I still loved her anyways!!! Wasn't my suitcase!!!! haha!!! |

| Sorry, yes Rabies tags have to be with the pups. I just thought the OP meant special types of shots. I keep their rabies papers in the camper and the tags with me. Thanks for posting that reminder. Sorry your girl didn't like camping that much. We also use a camper, if we go somewhere we take it so our babies can go with us. I prefer not to stay in a hotel with my furbabies. They also feel more at home because everything has our scent.

| I took my maltese one time and he looked absolutely miserable. I now have a Westie and a 5 month old Yorkie. The westie, I think, would LOVE it because he loves to be outside no matter what. Lucy, however, can't wait to get home from a walk and find her favorite toys and blanket. I don't think she would like it. So I guess it depends on the dog! It you start them out young .. . they may get used to it and love it. |

| Shelby & Seymour LOVE camping. We bring an xpen with us (actually 2 or 3 and put them together). They have their regular shots, nothing special, but I do treat for fleas (I know that there has been some issues with Yorkies and flea treatments... I hear that Adams spray is very gentle ) We camp in an RV so the issue of an escape is pretty rare, I think that camping in a tent may be a bit more challenging (squeezing thru zippers, etc.). We take our stroller which is the ATV type and use it a lot when we take long hikes. We use a "burley" behind our bicycles when we go bike riding. One thing that I strongly suggest is SOCIALIZE your dogs. Yorkies attract lots of other campers.... I love meeting new people, but it really helps that my dogs are friendly. ALSO, there are many other dog owners that camp with their dogs.... don't assume that they are all responsible. There is always the "big dog" owner that don't understand why his Great Dane can't play with your Yorkie....... it is the "he wouldn't hurt a flea" syndrome. Beware of these people!!! It could be fatal if you are too trusting. I just politely say "sorry", I would rather not. Camping is a blast....... we love it!!! Shelby & Seymour have a "camping bag" and when they see it ........... you should see their excitment!!!

| Let me add that when we took our Maltese camping - we did NOT have a lovely camper or RV. It was strictly tent camping. I imagine he would have liked a camper or RV better. It was freezing! |

| Gosh, I have been following Gen and Cookies story "my baby is missing and I don't know what to do" and your post just made me realize, I need to put together a kit just in case one of my guys was to get away. I would't have photos of perhaps longer or shorter hair cuts with me so I am thinking of getting some photos and making up a flyer that I can carry with the rabies certificate that has my current phone numbers. Time is so important when one of them goes missing. I figure if I have the base, I could add the current facts and any of the offices would allow me to copy what I had so I could be passing out flyers within 15 minutes of losing them. The one good thing about campers, is if one has a problem 3/4's of the campground is at the others aid. We have camped for over 20 years and my poodle went out the door with my husband, he didn't know it until he came back in from hooking up all the lines (at night) we frantically went outside, Good old Keisha went into about a $250,000 rig and jumped into the middle of their couch. Our Little 24ft $3000 piece of yuck just wasn't her style apparently because she had no desire to come home. This could have been a disaster, and I wouldn't have been able to get flyers out until the next morning. Thanks for the post and the eye opener question!!!!!! Sharon |

| We take ours camping and we have a dog friendly tent. The tent has a "doggie door" we can open the door and let the dogs out to pee. We useually have to have proof of rabies when we go and we make sure all shots are up to date. Where we go there generally are not many if any other people around so they are not "always" on leashes. Our dogs do not go out of our sight.

| I've taken my little one camping a couple of times now. The first time we were in a RV and it was no problem. Just like home. The second time was in a tent and it was actually a fun experience. We use cots in the tent and I had mad a sleeping area under the cot with his bed and a bunch of blankets. Of course he never touched it and crawled into my sleeping bag with me. It was really cold the second night and we had to run the little buddy to keep things warm and he knocked the heater over once but then he left it alone after that. I made a camping bag for him with a separate cooler for his food. The only thing I wish I had brought with me was a mat to put his food on. He tends to be a fussy and will only eat if his food is on the ground. Don't ask me why. This looks like a great thing to have for camping. Mountainsmith K-9 Cube Set from Backcountry.com |

| We horse camp. We took her and of coarse she was always on a tie of some sort. Suppose to be campground rules. When we are riding, we put her in the trailer with our cattle dog with the tv on. Sometimes I take her riding with me. She is a beginner camper so hopefully she will adjust much better next year. She doesn't have much choice since that's our choice of recreation. |

| we took our girls when they were 5 mths old. Our tent is big enough so that their smaller xpen can set between our cots. we also took their stroller with the atv wheels and parked it close to the campfire, (it was cold). they had their thermal jammies on and the windscreen up on the stroller and could sit near the campfire. I never let them loose, off leash ever. I'd be scared of snakes or hawks or whatnot.

| Here is a picture of our campsite. You can see KC behind the Jeep. We kept him on a long retractable leash so he could pretty much go anywhere. |
