| Just wondering because I'm getting a little irritated over here. Li is nine months old now and still consistently having accidents in the house. It's mainly poop but pee once or twice a week. I don't know what to do anymore. I let her out whenever she whines. I let her out in the middle of the night. I let her out as soon as we wake up, as soon as we get home, she is crated when we aren't home. What the heck else can I do???? I refuse to do the pee pads, so those aren't an option for us. I'm just at a loss here and I'm getting very frustrated. We had planned on getting new carpeting for all of the bedrooms but that project is on hold until she breaks this nasty habit!!!

| Im interested in all the replies you are going to get!! I cant complain because our Bella is only 16 weeks and she is pretty good.. altho we have another dog in the house and she seems to like to "hit" all the spots that newman has done his business on.. we are contemplating ripping the carpet out of the house and putting the hardwood floors... i get confused because when she is locked in the bathroom during the day she has no accidents in there and goes on the paper... but if your dog is 9 months old and still doing it... OH great!! hehe |

| Donating YT 10K Club Member | What time is she pooping? That is when you take her outside. Make sure you walk around with her...it stimulates her bowels. All of mine are very regular with their poop schedules...I just arranged to be outside then. As far as urinating...don't wait for her to tell you...take her out on the hour every hour is the best suggestion I can give you. You also need to be dilegent in removing the odor any where she's gone inside. Nature's miracle works well.

| No, seriously, I have a 1 yr. 1 month old that I would say is about 90-95% housetrained (goes outside only, not on pads) and a 4 1/2 month old that is about 60-65% housetrained (on a pad and doing great outside too!) I'm thinking one big box of pads, and the younger one will be all outside too...My little girl (the older one) goes on command, even in the rain, under an umbrella, w/me bending low to the ground to cover her...How cool is that!!! |

| It took Millie Sage about 9 months to be house trained and about 12 -14 months to be fully reliable where she had full run of the house. Until then, she only had access to one room at a time and the room she had access to, was the one my husband or I was in. Anytime we introduced a room to her, we acted as if she was not housebroken and keep vigilant over her and would actually live in that room for a while, so that she understood that this was part of the "den" and she could not mess in it. We allowed her access to a doggie door too. It was a long laborious process, but it was worth it in the end, because we have a lovely housebroken dog. We also woke up in the middle of night with her and took her out every 2 hours. We would take her out in the snow, rain, and any other kind of weather. We also kept her in a crate/ex-pen when we were not able to keep an eye on her. We started out in a crate and extended the crate to an x-pen with the crate in it. We also NEVER introduced her to pee pads. At one point, we placed the x-pen around the opening of the doggie door, so the only way she had to go potty was to go out the doggie door and go outside. This worked really well. My husband and I both work and we still managed to have a housebroken dog, using the methods above.

: at the picture of you holding the umbrella over Apple. ![]() But seriously, Hot Rod is 2 1/2 and Maggie is 1 1/2 and we do use pads and somehow we still manage to have a couple of accidents from time to time. Hubby just found poo on the hallway runner 2 days ago. So I would say that mine are 98% trained. They do really well with the pad but obviously they still are not fully housetrained.

| Wanted to clarify - when I say "housebroken" I mean 100% to the point where she absolutely will not mess in the house. She whines and scratches at the door if she cannot get out or comes to get me.

| Maybe you could time feed. Feed your furbaby, for example 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, give the usual amount of food and leave the bowl down for 20mins at a time, if your furbaby doesn't eat at each feeding thats fine still pick it up after 20mins. This might help you determine and predict what time and how many times your furbaby might poop. |

| I read lots of books about yorkies before I got Louis, and they all said that yorkies are hard to potty train. Louis was VERY easy. He was potty trained by the time he was 16 weeks old. (He uses the potty outside, we never used pee pads.) I took him outside about every hour. I didn't wait for him to tell me he had to go. I had to constantly watch him, and whenever he would show signs that he had to go potty, I would hurry up and take him outside. He has been 100% house trained (with no accidents) since he was 16 weeks old. ![]() Also, make sure you really clean the spots on your carpet when your dog has used the bathroom. I have heard that natures miracle works. Good luck! |

| House training is something I am anal about. Excuse the pun. This is what I do. As I go along, I bell train. (They ring a bell hung on the door to go outside). When I get a new puppy, they are crate trained. I take them out every time they come out of their crate, right after any feeding, and if they have been out of thier crate with family for a while I take them out every 30 min. to 1 hour. If they are out of their crate, I never take my eyes off them and when we go out I watch them until they go! Period. This way I know what is going on and what time frame to expect. Everyone in my house is expected to follow the same plan. If they cannot watch the puppy in training, then they are not to be out of the crate, period. The thing to remember is consistency and learning to know your dog, and their habits. I can tell by my puppies behavior early on if they need to go out, and if they need to poop or pee. They act different. Oh, and don't give your puppy full run of the house until she learns. Keep her confined to her crate, or a room at a time with a pet gate until she masters letting you know. Good luck! |
