Besides, she gets her exercise at the doggie park, and on our daily walks in less crowded areas. Regularly, without fail.

It's not aynbody's darn business what we do with our babies, as long as there's no animal cruelty involved!

The most outrageous comment was when I was coming back from the vet, had just picked up Sushi after having spend a night at the vet following her spaying, we're standing at the lights to cross the street, and this B^*& says: "What a shame that on a nice day like this you're not allowed to walk, cuz you should be, you poor thing" !!!!!! Can you believe it??????

I got sooooo upset ....let's just say I let her have it for poking her nose into people's business!!!!!

EXACTLY!! But yet people still feel the need to poke their noses in other people's business. And it baffles me why people think that lovingly carrying your dog somehow constitutes as animal cruelty? Meanwhile, those same people would probably turn a blind eye to a REAL act of animal cruelty.

OK, people may hate me for saying this... but I must admit, it does irritate seeing little Yorkies being held what seems ALL the time. I totally understand in certain situations having to pick up your dog, like lovespandp stated across the intersection, or if a big dog approaches, or if in a large crowd of people, I 100% understand picking up your dog in these cases. OR, if a dog just had surgery, or has LP, or something, therefore I would never ever in a million years make a comment to anyone ever because you never fully know the situation. But I DO think dogs should walk and do think sometimes people go overboard. My friend has a new little Yorkie pup, who can't even be 4 pounds yet and she walked for nearly two hours (over a mile for sure) at a good paced speed around our neighborhood circle perfectly fine. So, I can see where the general public is coming from, thinking "oh these little dogs are just carried and babied all the time..." but because I know more about the Yorkie breed and owning one, I can also understand a lot more than the average person. Besides that, I'm not the kind of person to make rude comments to anyone about anything. And believe me, my 12.5lb Jackson is as spoiled as anything, but he's all dog and loves living his life as a dog, lol, you can tell. He's capable of going up to other dogs, saying his "hey" and loves to run around, etc. He doesn't cling to my legs the entire time we're out; however, if I leave a room, he's crying and wanting me back. So he's a big baby too but I've also let him know it's OK to be a dog! And I mean *NO* offense in this post. I hope nobody takes it the wrong way. I'm just saying the other side of things.

I haven't had anybody say anything to me yet. My husband jokes about holding her all the time though. She wants me to hold her though, she will jump and give me a little growl/bark to say "hey mom, pick me up!".

I've gotten these comments alot too. The funny thing is when my neighbors see me holding them. They say that Hot Rod and Maggie May are taking mommy for her walk. lol. I tend to pick Hot Rod up because of his surgery. He sometimes seems to get a little tired. We probably walk close to a 1/2 mile when we go out and we try to do that at least 2x a day. When I wasn't working, we would do it 3x a day. That's a lot for those widdle legs. lol.

Default Carrying out babies

When someone says, why are you carrying your dog.......

I simply say...............

Sure he can walk, but why should he if daddy will carry him.

It always gets a smile.....

This is exactly what I wish people would consider before making snarky comments to complete strangers. In sushidoodidoo's situation where she was holding her baby after surgery and a person made a snarky comment...that person had no idea why the dog was being carried, yet she still felt the need to spit out a rude commment. Why is it that when people see somebody holding their small dog (and these people have only seen them ONCE), they automatically assume that the dog never gets a chance to walk?

Mocha is only 3lbs, so yes, I AM over protective of him. I'm certainly more protective of him than I would be if I had a much larger dog. I would rather be OVER protective than to risk him being in any possible danger. Does that mean that I baby him too much and just need to let him "be a dog"? I don't really see why it should bother people that someone is carrying a small dog. I don't see it harming anybody, so why is it so frowned upon?

Piper loves to walk and I take her for a 3 mile walk every day at a State Park. She never gets tired and could probably walk another 3 miles. But if we get to an overcrowded area and there are a lot of people around us she gets scared and I have to pick her up. I'll carry her till we reach an area that is less crowded and then I'll set her back down and then she continues on her merry way.

Totally understand that you're overprotective of him; I am overprotective of Jackson too. I don't think there's anything wrong with babying a dog (I baby Jackson for sure!!) but I think they also need rules and boundaries as well. Also, I have seen (not anyone on yt) but various people with tiny dogs at the dog park, and the dogs just like stand by their owner and don't do anything! It sometimes appears to me they don't even know how to be a dog... I dunno, that's the only point I'm trying to make. I'm not frowning upon people holding their dogs or anything. It's just something I've noticed so I know general public who don't own dogs or yorkies would look at and think what they think. I don't frown upon people holding their dogs ever, I will pick up Jackson and baby him and love him just as much as the next person....

Aw, how cute.

That's all I'm saying -- it's possible (unless the dog has lp or something else wrong...) for them to walk long distances. I just think people act like they get oh so tired so quick. I've found that's not the case, it's usually the owners who want to hold the dog but the dogs could usually keep goin'...

But people will talk to me as if I NEVER let him on the ground and that he doesn't know how to walk! Does anyone else get attitude and comments from people when you're holding your dog?

I pick him up and hold him whenever I feel that he would be safer in a particular situation, and other times I pick him up to just love him and cuddle him. What the heck is so wrong with that?! Just because he's a dog, I shouldn't be able to hold him? Whenever I see somebody carrying an infant or a child, I don't tell them "Your kid has legs, let him walk!"

And that completes my rant for the day!
Thanks for listening
THOSE ARE FIGHTING WORDS LOL "He has legs, let him walk"?

I haven't heard any comments like that lately but one Sunday morning I passed 2 men sitting waiting for their lift and one commented it was the first time he'd seen anyone walk little dogs 'like those'. He thought people only had them to carry around in bags and such. Funny thing is there arn't many small dogs around here and those that do go out are generally walked, including one 12 year-old little girl whos owner takes out every day. She gets picked up when other dogs approach because she's nervouse of them. He explained to me they'd had to take her at 5 weeks old as she was the runt, only half the size of her littermates & they wouldnt let her eat. They had very different ideas 12years ago.

Get a pet stroller and see the comments. They usually are oh so cuteor I cant blieve a dog is in a stroller. I do what I want and people that make remarks,I just put my head up and by-pass them. I just act like I am to good for you.

Most people who make the "let them walk" comments are probably jealous because they have a big ugly dog at home that can NEVER be carried or brought to most public places

Brister, no one is going to hate you for your opinion Its when people (meaning not you) judge your situation and don't know the facts, We were on holiday with Tia and she walked 13 miles in one hot day and 5 min from our apartment I picked Tia up and comments were made by passer bys.
I can't be bothered to explain any more , people are who they are.
