| I put a little nutri-cal on the end of the tube to get my puppies trained to drink from the bottle, that way they can't tip the bowl over or step in the water. much, much cleaner. |

| Therapy Dog Donating Member | Great thread! I used to have parrots and used the Lixit bottle all the time because the birds were "dunkers" with their food and then the water would get full of bacteria and such. I never thought of doing that for the doggies since they are not in the crates all the time but that holder is amazing. Do you really like yours?? I might have to get one for the home and then the Lixit for their crates. Oh one thing I also used for the parrots in their bottle was to add a few drops of the GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract)..it's amazing and it helps prevent bacteria from getting in the bottle and keeping that slimy feel out of the bottle. Here is a link explaining it's benefits. You can get it on line or any good healthfood store or a Whole Foods Market. Grapefruit Seed Extract

| what a great thread. It wasn't more than two days ago that I heard lots of splashing and caught Baby using the water bowl (and it isn't THAT big) for a wading pool. So, this thread is very timely. Thank you for the links and hints for getting them to use the bottles. This is great!

Lixit makes an awesome glass water bottle with varying tube sizes (although sadly I don't see them in literal stores anymore.) Amazon sells all of them with the various tube sizes if anyone is interested. (Just search Lixit Glass Bottles.) The only downside is that they are square, so if you've already made your water bottle holder you'll need to make sure the circumference of your tube is big enough for it to fit. They also just sell the kits ( I don't use a water bottle with Winston, but I use the lixit glass bottles with my small animals and I love them to death (no plastic leaching... ever!) | |

| I use both. They have the bowl to drink out of but Dudley is the only one that uses the water bottle. It is attached to his crate and at night if he needs water he has it. |

| Thanks The tube is a 4" PVC pipe, and the bottom is, well, I really don't know-LOL- It's some type of drain peice. There are many different kinds and prices. It really doesn't matter what you use, as long as it fits the 4" PVC pipe. I suggest going to the plumbing department and finding the cheapest one. I have seen them (drain peices) as low as $6.00. He used a jig saw to cut out the slot for the water bottle spout. |

| Your photos are awesome! I read the previous posters comments so I had to check for myself. I use a water bottle outside so they don't walk in their water, inside we use waterbowls.

| I showed my dh the pic, because of course, I want one, LOL and he said the bottom piece is a 'toilet flange' which is what you use to bolt the toilet to floor. Love the scrapbooking sticker idea. And the glass bottles link, because I don't like plastic leeching. Gosh, I love YT, you can find everything on here!
