| I love the traditional yorkie but I have to admit I have seen some beautiful parti yorkies but I have also seen many that look poorly bred. If the parti is a yorkie, which it is, then other than the additional white coloring, the parti should conform to the yorkie standard and I am not seeing that in most of them. If a breeder is going to breed parti yorkies then they need to not just focus on the color. Conformation and soundness should come first. I have heard that many unethical breeders have been mixing in other breeds with the yorkie to come up with these parti yorkies and I feel that is wrong. If someone wants a parti as a pet then is fine to buy a pet parti yorkie if you find one you really love but if your intentions are to buy a parti for breeding then please do your research and breed only the best. |

I agree. Some of the Parti Yorkies (though beautiful) I have been seeing look like a standard Yorkie mixed with Maltese. Especially when I go to websites where the breeder sales all these breeds under one house... Yorkies, Maltese and Shih Tzu's, which makes me VERY sceptical. The Biewer's on their breeder sites all look the same in body and form, healthy and FANTASTIC. They are so stunningly beautiful. Last edited by Cerise; 09-10-2009 at 10:11 AM.

| I love them, I think they are beautiful. It is unfortunate it is called a "fault"...only because some human, way back, decided it was. Way back when, some humans decided certain human colors were a fault too. Sad. Nature gave us these beauties and they are perfection too!

At a local animal shelter around here, there was the coolest yet weirdest looking dog... it was a German Shepherd mixed with Corgi. So it had this tiny little Corgi body with short legs and a huge GS head! I loved her though lol. Her name was BeeGee. She didn't get along w/ other dogs though, so couldn't adopt her.

How would this be fair to those of us who truly love and want only the best for the parti yorkie? At least 50% (probably many more then that) of the AKC traditional colored yorkies that are being bred today fall short (in some way or another) of the standard set forth by the YTCA. Just one look on Puppyfind will prove this fact. Why should my love of...and desire to better the parti yorkie...be determined by the amount of breeders who are not now, nor never will be breeding any color yorkie to a standard? Many breed clubs have allowed variety classes for dogs that did not meet the standard set for the breed. The beagle has one for size. Both standards for the breed are identical except for height! Just two inches of height earned one of the sizes it's own variety class to be shown seprate from the other size. Imagine that? So why can't those of us...who truly love the parti for it's color (and not how many pups we can produce to sell)...keep the dream that one day it will be granted show status with it's own color variety class? The American cocker spaniel has THREE color varieties and they are not shown in the same ring until group. That is my hopes and dreams for the American Parti Yorkie. ![]() But as BJH already stated so eloquently...the variety will need a lot of serious breeders who are more in love with the color (more so then money it can make) and start breeding the parti yorkie to a standard comparable to the show yorkie of today before that can ever happen. And right now...sadly...I don't see that happening anytime soon.

You know that I agree with you and the importance of breeding a quality parti Yorkie! I want to raise the best that I can, no matter what color the puppy is. Tammy

| Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I only breed Biewers to Biewers. My teapot Yorkie and my havanese have been neutered a long time ago. All Biewers can be traced back to the original breeders, Gertrud and Werner Biewer. Parti's do not follow a standardard. Biewers have white on all 4 legs, tip of the tail (and their tails are not docked) and 3 colors in the face. Those who breed parti's are breeding a variation of color that cannot be shown in any ring. Biewers are shown in 3 rare breed venues. |
