| "Parti Yorkies" What's your opinion So I bought Parti Yorkies. Now what? I thought this was the coolest thing since traditionals. I was wondering what the yorkie community thinks of these sweet little dogs???? Please give me our honest opinion. Last edited by Wylie's Mom; 09-07-2009 at 09:05 AM. | Shouldn't Matter I think they are beautiful dogs and would love to have one myself. I guess you are wondering if some are judgmental about exploiting this "fault"?? I don't think so on this list. Some of the most frequent, most knowledgeable posters have Parties (not sure of plural spelling). My 'traditional' Yorkie is 9 1/2 pounds and a little too long and there is no cold shoulder about that either. I think most on this list are just happy to have this community of people who love their dogs enough to seek a email group to talk about them!! Really cute puppy by the way.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm a stickler to breeding to standard, while I think that it's perfectly fine to have a dog that doesn't meet standard, I'm against changing standard to suit yourself. For example, I love floppy ears, but a yorkie breeder who breeds for this trait would be unethical, there's nothing wrong with buying a dog with floppy ears as long as you didn't pay more than you would for a dog that met standard. By supporting breeder who breed to standard, you are protecting the breed as a whole. The parti color is a fault, and while many people think it's a "cute" fault, breeders who purposely breed for it and increase the price for this fault this are misleading the public. It's actually very easy to produce the parti color if you have two parti dogs, in fact, you can't produce anything but parties. On the other hand, it is possible for two standard yorkies to produce both standard and parti yorkies. Good breeders will sell the parti to a pet only home, and don't charge more for it. I also recommend that people avoid supporting "one trait" breeders like those who breed for size or color alone.

| I think it's great that you adore you're lil parti pup. I'm a traditionalist and exhibitor....while I think all dogs are lovely and sweet and great. I just don't agree with breeding anything outside the standard on purpose and charging more for it because they convince the public that it is a rare colored yorkie.....

YT 500 Club Member | I think parti yorkies look very pretty but easily exploited for money. Over here the average price for a tradition yorkie is about £450-£500. I saw the first ever litter of parties advertised on a web-site advertised at £1,200. Almost 3 times as much, they even said in the add 'Very popular in America', purely a selling ploy. I also saw an older boy advertised as carrying the F1 splitter gene, Most people in this country wouldn't understand what this meant, I only did because of this site, but this little guy was nowhere near standard so anyone using him at stud would only be doing it in the hope of producing parties and alot of money. |
