| 8 weeks is typical and until I got on YT I didnt know any better. But most everyone on here will say that 12 weeks is the absolute earliest..... Especially for little dogs because they are so small and fragile as it is. Plus, they learn important social skills in those extra 4 weeks. I got Ella at 10 weeks tho, and she was fine! If you are wanting to buy from this breeder just ask if she can keep her a little longer with the mom!

| We just had a litter of 5...we started letting 2 of the puppies leave mommy at 8 weeks, they were done weaning, eating solid food and mostly independent...2 more left at the 9-10 week range and we still have one, he was the smallest and finally got over the 2 pound weight at 11.5 weeks. He has been on solid food before the others, but he was so small he only gained a few ounces a week, it took longer for him to reach 2 lbs. He's ready now and we are interviewing people to get him...that's the hardest part we found this time...finding people who you would want to have one of your dogs...strange, very strange. But that's another thread for sure. That's our litter's history..hope it helps. |

| Honestly, I think it all depends on the dog. Some are probably totally ready to be put in their new homes at 8 weeks but I do think they learn a lot in that 8-12 week period, so I think I'd prefer to keep puppies until 12 weeks if I were a breeder. I got Jackson at 9 weeks though with absolutely no problems, he was a larger pup, almost 4 pounds at 9 weeks so all went well, he never had any biting issues- which seems to be the main issue in pups that leave before 12 weeks, they don't learn the bite inhibition that their mamas teach them.

| Thanks for everyone's feedback. I wasn't aware of bite inhibition with puppies and their moms. Never too old to learn! |

| The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's Code of Conduct states this: 8) All puppies leaving the breeders possession will be a minimum of twelve (12) weeks of age to facilitate adequate socialization as well as appropriate emotional and temperament development through interaction with siblings, dam and other dogs. Any breeder who violates the breed club's rules is not a reputable breeder. I would keep looking. |

| 8 weeks I don't like letting my puppies leaving before 12 weeks. Even though vet says it's o.k. at 8 weeks. I think they are to young. I mean at 5 weeks they are weaned from mom. There are steps they go through. I want my puppies to be very secure and happy. |

| I got my little Krystal at 8 weeks. I was sure it was too early. But she was great. When I think about it now, I worry that she was too small. She is only about 4 pounds now at 8 months. I didn't know about the bite thing either. And little Krystal does like to bite/play. Play period really. I hope that if I ever get another little yorkie that she is kept until 12 weeks. I want them to have all the advantages possible. Dion

| They should keep him until he is 12 weeks to make sure that they are healthy and socialized amongst siblings and momma. I would see if she would consider keeping him until 12 weeks, if not move on. Good luck!

| Rockie was 11 weeks when we brought him home from the breeder. At the speed alot of the breeders are allowing the pups to leave we have to be careful about getting them to soon.

| Hi, My Enzo is 4.2lbs and he is 3yrs old. He is doing great. Krystal might grow a little more. There are alot of people that like the tiny yorkies. My girls puppies are rangeing from 3lbs to 5lbs. She will do fine. When and if you buy another one just wait til 12 weeks. Like I said before the vet said 8 weeks is not bad. I really think it's up to the breeder. I like to wait til 12 weeks. |

| Hi. Well all my pups over the years were obtained from reputable Breeders and all came home with me before 12 weeks apart from Sammie who I lost recently...He was obtained at 18 weeks..because the Breeder was waiting to see how big he would grow incase she wanted to keep him. He was my tiniest to date...But Duste my latest pup I obtained the earliest at 8 weeks..the others at about 9-10 weeks old...They all seemed to be o.k. though.. Chrisann.

| Pups should not be allowed to leave the breeders home until 12 weeks of age. If the breeder is following a good vaccination protocol, vaccinations are given 8 weeks another at 12 weeks. At 8 weeks they are just being weaned, a very dangerous age for the pup.....being rehomed at that age is very tramatic for them. They usually will not eat well for the first 24 to 48 hours, which can lead to hyperglycemia.

| i got Sadie at 7 weeks, i know this is way too early according to YT, i believe it would be better to wait until 12 weeks. Sadie is doing fine and she's healthy, but i think we will have to really work hard on her nipping and biting which she would have learned from mom and siblings if left there until 10-12 weeks. just remember if you get a pup at 8 weeks to feed them several meals a day or free feed, make sure they eat and get plenty of water, and have karo syrup or nutrical on hand at all times just in case they have a hypoglycemia attack. have the vet check the pup out within three days of getting her to be sure it's fine when purchased and that you feel better about the pup's health as well. |
