| ![]() Having just read some posts on the Yorkies for sale forum etc, I think it might be a good time to bring up the issue of a part of breeding responsibly. A responsible breeder will look at many aspects in producing a litter; many points are discussed in various areas of this forum. Another aspect to consider BEFORE that litter is produced is that those puppies you will be wanting to sell, may or may not readily find a new home. Therefore, as the breeder that brought about briinging these lives into the world it is up to you to realize these pups may end up being with you much longer than you planned until you find just the right home. You may end up with some or all until well past six months even over a year old due to lack of enquiries or good homes. Hold out for the right home, please. Selling cheap or not, to the wrong homes is not a good idea. That pup or dog is defenseless if you do that it is now at the mercy of whomever now owns it. Selling on open papers to try to get a home is not a good plan. Breeding for money is not a good reason to breed. Poor choices will end up putting your puppies at risk, please don't do that. Think twice before you do the next breeding as to your purpose for breeding. |

| ![]() There is a local dog here being put up for stud. He is 6 months old! Plus they want $500 for this unproven unpapered baby to stud! Crazy people.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() This IS a great post - I hope people pay attention and learn that breeding is more than just selling puppies - and you're right - in this economy - the cost of yorkies may be more than some are willing to pay... and to sell just 'to sell' is just taking a chance with the puppy's whole life.....not all homes are good homes I know someone who just got a new puppy - got her work hours cut and now can hardly afford the dog food - then the poor puppy got a case of mange or a skin condition of some sort... and she promptly put him outside. (It's WICKED hot in Houston) I did what I could by making calls for her to get the dog help - but dont really know her well enough to really step in and DO something... but it breaks my heart |

An older puppy or dog can be sold for a little less, but be very cautious. I have seen too many looking for cheap dogs because they can't afford certain prices or say they can't. Yes some will argue they will pay Vet bills. would you take them seriously?. Well, guess what? They aren't going to pay Vet care either. Cheaper and easier to let it die and go get another cheap dog. This is becoming far too common -- and heart breaking. Or as was pointed out, dog with a skin condition got put outside in very hot weather. Likely it is dead now. A couple of days ago I was talking to someone who said she had taken her dogs in to the Vet for their vacc's. She ended up waiting a bit in the waiting room as an emergency came in. Bernese Mtn dog was left outside in its backyard and we were having a very hot heat wave. Dog died of heat stroke. I have seen very neglected and infected teeth in cheap dogs, owners don't care. It dies, go get another one somewhere, cheap. | |

| ![]() It's really terrible that people can take advantage of the marketable value of breeding any dog. Being an honest and reputable breeder are qualities that everyone wants in the person that we get our furbabies from. Unfortunately those qualities are sometimes non existant.

| ![]() Sold is also not the end of the story. A reputable breeder will also take back any dog or pup they have sold for any reason. If returned in a short amount of time and pup or dog is ok, return is because it just is not working out, a good part of the purchase price should be refunded. And any dog or pup sold should be returned to the breeder no matter of the reason. Yes even if the dog is now 14 years old and the owner died suddenly from a heart attack. My contract requires the dog must come back to me if the purchaser cannot keep it for any reason. There is no refund of course, if we are talking about a long time after the purchase but anyone buying a dog from me is very relieved to know my policies and hope they will be able to get a dog or puppy from me because of my policies. Those are the kind of new pet owners I look for, the ones that like my rather stringent criteria before I will sell them a dog or puppy. |
