No distrespect, but there is no such thing as a Teacup, tiny specialists, doll face, is a term used as andvertising ploy to the unsuspecting

It's not that they can't be bred, they shouldn't be bred. Yes, many people have yorkies this size as no one can predict the size of a yorkie will grow. Breeding tinies risking their lives, any responsible person would not do this.

I'm sure you will find many sources out there that claim they do exists, but fact of the matter is, those sources are incorrect. They do not. There is ONE standard for Yorkies--"not to exceed 7 pounds", no sub categories based on size, no teacups, miniatures, micros, etc. Most anyone here will attest to that, as will AKC, the YTCA and any educated, reputable breeder out there.

I'm not sure what size she is, but the general rule of thumb that ethcial breeders adhere to is that females under 5 pounds should not be bred. And even then, there is much more to take into consideration--pelvic structure, did the dog come from a line of free whelpers for starters.

The reason smaller Yorkies exists is because 1) the dog was a runt of the litter, or 2) because unethical breeders keep breeding dogs too small to be bred to meet the demands for smaller dogs. (From people who obviously have not educated themselves.)

Yes, you are right, I actually found MORE information that said exactly that. I have been doing research on her since Wednesday, when I knew I was going to pick her up and I keep finding more and more.

You can only read so much in a 18 hour period. I also purchased the book "The complete Idiots guide to Yorkies". it is filled with quite a bit of good information, a lot of it is general knowledge as I also own a wirehaired daschund.

I hope your girl will be okay and not need a csection. I would take her to the vet now rather than waiting till the 11th

If you are interested in purchasing a tiny Yorkie, sometimes called a Teacup,
Micro Mini, Teeny, or any other name that means “extra small”, there are
several things you should consider. The YTCA’s Code of Ethics precludes the
use of the words “teacup”, “tiny specialists”, doll faced, or similar terminology
by its members, and for good reason.

Thank you, I just found this a little bit ago also. Why do they create names that do not exist? Why not just keep their breed name. UGH!!!

Seriously, what is wrong with some people!

What!? You mean you didn't instantly know EVERYTHING there was to know about Yorkies the second this girl was handed over to you!? I'm shocked!

We all start off learning somewhere...and you've picked a great site to come to for information. Sounds like this girl is lucky that you have her now.

There's also a wonderful book, written by a now deseased yorkie breeder and AKC judge: Terri Shumsky "How To Buy and Raise a Good Healthy Dog" There several Chapters on Breeding, Whelping and Caring for a Litter and the Dam. The book is very instructional and provides lists of supplies, feeding, etc. I'm not sure but, I think it can be purchased on Amazon.

I'll check with a Bluebonnet Yorkshire Club of Dallas member to see if she still has the DVD on whelping that Terri also produced.

Yes, I do know who the father is, I have his papers along with hers (sorry when I meant got out, I did not mean out of the house). She was in a home with 3 other teacup yorkies. Daddy is about the same size as her.

This would be her 3rd litter, according to what I have been told she is a GREAT mom and has always given birth on her own.

I know they go for about 63 days, problem is, is that I don't have a set date. I also know her temp will drop.

Not exactly sure what I should be feeding her now, as my research leads me to a few different things and not knowing how far along she is......
Ok. I got it. So it isn't as bad as it first sound!!

You already got good advices.

I still think she is due anytime now. Her whelping box should be ready now so she can get use to it and feel safe.

Good luck.

No, but I don't think ANYBODY really does know EVERYTHING there is to know and as I said, it was either me taking her or.....

Anyway, I have been around them before and am a lover of doggies/puppies and have read up on them because we have been interested in yorkies for a while know. And see....I found all of you.

I am new here too but I have seen "teacup yorkies" that might not be the correct terminology but they are out there. I guess by the correct terms they are just very small. Anyhow if she is indeed pregnant I wouldn't wait to take her to the vet.. I would find one that can do an ultrasound now and if wanted you can go back to your normal vet later. But she definality needs to see a vet now. My very small chihuahua Pixie scared me very bad... I thought she was pregnant, I didn't know how she did it because she never goes outside alone and we do not have any males. Anyhow she had milk and was swollen in her milk glands and down there but when I took her to the vet he said she had a false pregnancy and that when they go into heat it can trigger the hormones to react like this. I hope for the best and thanks for taking her in and giving her the home she deserves... why would they put her to sleep anyhow? Poor baby....

Default Thank you all

I want to thank you all for such quick replies. I will get the books that were suggested, at the end of the day I want to do what is best for Miracle, she is such a lovely little lady and we just adore her already.

Also, another question and I'm sorry, I probably should have added this to my original, do any of you know if she will have more difficulty due to a plate she now has in her hip? I would think she may but we as human don't always. My understanding is that she jumped off of the couch and hurt her hip and needed surgery a few months back.

I don't know, unless they are in severe pain or are very sick and dying I am not sure why anybody would put any animal down.

We had a yorkie/daschund mix that we purchased last January and we were told was very healthy when we took her in to get her fixed we found out that she had multiple liver shunts with the possibility of a tumor on her liver. We did not do the surgery because they told us she may not survive it, so we opted to give her the best life we could. We expected her to live for about two years. She passed away one day before her 9 month birthday due to the poisions that effected her brain.

I do know that liver shunts are very popular in the yorkie breed.

It is something that you should inform the vet. This fact alone your vet may want to schedule a C-section. Because of the regidity in the plate it may hinder the pelvic area to expand to allow pups to travel down the birth canal.

I did let my vet know (well the Tech) when I talked with them. In addition, I have the hospital where she had the surgery done at is sending her medical files over.

I will call them again and see what they say.

Also, what are the chances or symptons of a false pregnancy?

Rare with a girl that has already had a couple of litters, let's pray that this is the case. Especially if she and the male were unsupervised. I guess you'll know soon enough. Keep the questions coming and keep us posted. We'll pray that all goes well. I know you'll make the right decisions concerning this lil one.

Sorry, about getting upset about the word Teacup and the fact she's so tiny, the anger wasn't directed at you, just in general.
