I don't know, unless they are in severe pain or are very sick and dying I am not sure why anybody would put any animal down.

We had a yorkie/daschund mix that we purchased last January and we were told was very healthy when we took her in to get her fixed we found out that she had multiple liver shunts with the possibility of a tumor on her liver. We did not do the surgery because they told us she may not survive it, so we opted to give her the best life we could. We expected her to live for about two years. She passed away one day before her 9 month birthday due to the poisions that effected her brain.

I do know that liver shunts are very popular in the yorkie breed.
