After reading about how the puppy had to be separted from it's mother so young, I'd guess that maybe the puppy was is still young and did not get the advantage of learning the right and wrong way to play with other dogs that it usually learns from it's mother and littermates. I agree that it is better to have shots done (surely started) before exposing to other dogs, but then exposure to other pups his size will be helpful to be properly socialized as an adult.

You are entitled to your opinions > However, the OP came here for advice and support . Not to be bashed and made to feel like badly. SHe has a very young puppy and needs YT support. It is too late to be telling her what a "good breeder" ought to have done.
I do agree that the new puppy needs to be kept separated from other puppies and dogs until all vaccines are administered . WE all are here to LEARN from each other, and do what is right for our dogs.
To the OP , i hope you wll read the rest of the answers in your thread. Most YTer's do care and will do the best we can to support other members , nicely.
I just brought home a 8 week old Shih Tzu last Tuesday. Suzi my Yorkie, and Miley , are getting to know each other each day little by little , better and better.

Yesterday a friend came over (sigh...without calling) to visit our new baby and brought his 12 week old retriever (cute BIG furball!)..... anyway all was well for about 15 minutes until the retriever finally got his giant tongue on Buster's face and Buster let out the biggest growl and snapped at him.

I'm sorry that you received negative feedback from one of our members. Please don't take it to heart.

I think that the best advice to be given is, please keep your baby away from other animals and public places until all of her puppy vaccinations have been completed and your vet gives you the go ahead.

ok- thank you all!!! You've made my heart warm! I came back to this forum and went "wow" look at the responses.

I want everyone to know I mean soooo well and want this little guy to have a great life - and I know I may have to give him a little extra motherly help ---- but don't want to spoil his life for him. I may be a little senstative as I was not ready for him either -- I had talked to a vet a year ago just asking his advice on yorkies - then BINGO - a call for help from him on a client of his.

So he is here and I promise to do my best!!!!!.

I now from this forum that you all just care that much for yorkies and I will read this forum everyday for assistance. Thank You! Am excited to share with you all our ups (and those dang downs) of yorkie-hood!

i brought my baby home at 6 weeks old too due to unforeseen reasons. i was scolded until it was excepted i had no choice also. i was hurt at first but was able to get the help and advice i needed. i have found that the pups not the momma is the main concern here lol as it should be. anyhow welcome.id love to be your friend .im kinda new also .i think maybe your pup might have been scared he never saw this dog before and it went for his face i mean what would you do??? he..he..he.. then again thats why i joined i dont know much.lol.

You are so right! We are all here to learn and get advice for our furkids. It is important to get the information out- I think everyone said the general rule of the puppy staying with mom until 12 weeks but there are always exception to every rule.

Alliepoo- Congrats on your new puppy and best wishes for training. It is important to socialize your puppy but at this point in time he only needs you. I would suggest until he is a few weeks older to try and introduce new dogs- the shots and vet check should be done- you wouldnt want him to pass anything on to others or vice versa. I do not think that you should be afraid of this behavior right now. He is very young and was out of his element- the only one he wants is momma. When he gets older try to bring him around older, gentler, socialized, possibly smaller, and see how that goes (one that isnt going to be bothered by a young guy like yours).

12 weeks? Is that a hard and fast rule? We got our puppy at 3 days shy of 8 weeks. The breeder had seperated the litter from the mother due to illness and was bottle/hand feeding them. Of course she was not allowed be around other dogs until her series of shots were completed. I thought 8 weeks was the norm. My Zena is doing very well and is strong and fit. Thanks from a newbie to YT.

If the puppy is only 7 wks old he is Not fully vaccinated. He will not be fully vaccinated until he's 4 mo. He should not be exposed to strange dogs and he should not be taken outside of your home and own back yard until he is fully protected by all vaccinations, especially if he was taken off mama too early. And not being a brat just stating a fact.
