Sign of Trouble?? or just scared
 

I have a 7 week old yorkie -- in love already and the past week has been a week full of love!!!! (and only one sleepless night:)

Yesterday a friend came over (sigh...without calling) to visit our new baby and brought his 12 week old retriever (cute BIG furball!)..... anyway all was well for about 15 minutes until the retriever finally got his giant tongue on Buster's face and Buster let out the biggest growl and snapped at him.

Buster has been chasing around our labador and cat all week - with no problems -- all has gone wonderful.

Is this little outburst anything to worry about??? or was he just scared? I really want to bring this little guy up well - and be well adjusted. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Might want to post this in the training section. Maybe he was just sick of having a huge face in his personal space.:rolleyes:

Woah, you got him at 6 weeks old?! That's incredibly young!

Welcome to YT! I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. You should post your question in the Training forum where there are lots of knowledgable members. Also, congratulations on your new baby - I'm glad to hear everything is going so well. We'd love to see pictures!

Your puppy has not started or finished puppy shots yet. You should not expose this baby to any other animial or on trips until 10 days after his last series of shots.

Before you harshly judge... you should know the story - which was not what my post was about. Yes, ideally 12 weeks would be ideal and it WAS NOT a petstore. Long story short - the mother became ill and the puppies had to go somewhere.

I am not a first time dog owner and have had a couple of long life best friends throughout the years. I hope you do not judge everybody that quickly nor does this forum. Kind of a cold welcome to this forum.

Welcome to yt. I'm sure it wasn't meant in a mean way just out of concern for your pup.

Advice on this forum is very very good and sometimes we hear things we don't want to but most times they are true. Hope you get the advice you need.:D

Perhaps Buster thought the retriever was going to hurt him, I don't think its anything to worry about at this stage . Hes a puppy and playing.

Hi there and Welcome to YT ! Totally understandable ! you do not need to feel attacked . So sorry that some have come accross so harsh . Some YTe'rs do have strong opinions and express themselves in a not so nice way on here at times. Try not to take it personally.
I am glad that you know what your doing and have owned dogs for a long time. You posted because to me it looks like you have the best intentions in mind for your new, precious baby. Congradulations for bringing Buster into your home.
Buster may have felt threatend by a bigger puppy , and had enough. That was his way of telling the puppy to back off, and leave me alone. He does not have too many defenses at this age, and this needs to be respected.
Since he is a very young puppy it is very important to wait until Buster has recieved all his vaccines before exposing him to other dogs or cats. Especially other puppies who probally have not been fully vaccinated. Buster should also not be going outside either, or visiting other people's homes right now. He is too young and vulnerable to illnessess. It is better to wait until he is older and fully vaccinated , then you can start to socialize him with other animals.

I was at a training session with my Yorkie who was really sweet and never had a problem with other dogs, but this one dog came over and was very pushy. My dog did the same thing and I corrected him. The trainer came over to me and told I was wrong to correct him. She said that the other dog needed to learn manners and to respect other dog's space.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork

He is frightened by the size of the other puppy. None of mine like big dog puppies. You'll need to carefully supervise them at all times simply due to the lab's size he can hurt your yorkie.
