| If the little one is due to deliver August 11th, how can she say she is, in fact, pregnant. Isn't it too soon to tell? I'm just wondering - the whole situation is sad IMO. My Matty is 3 1/2 lbs and way too small to breed.

| I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm hoping one of you "Charles' Angels" types, will be able to coax a little good information out of the vet. You know, something that might cause local animal authorities to take notice.

I'm a little confused about something, does a breeder need no permit or license? I mean if I were to sew up a bunch of pee pads, and sell $1,200.00 worth, I would need a resale permit. They can earn that much and not pay any taxes?

| I know you said you were bowing out, but then you asked another question.... so I'll answer and then move on. I was referring to your original line that said: (cut & paste) "......folks can start drawing a line and call me radical so they can stay within their do nothing but whinge comfort zone." That line is where I got my question about what you have done that people would call radical. That is also where I decided to answer your post as I thought it important to acknowledge there are people doing things, and to ask what you had done since you were setting yourself apart from those who had done nothing but complain. BTW I wasn't referring to just my own small individual efforts when I tried to make the point there were people doing things to help. I was referring to the rescues, the people making the most out of public service advertising, the congressmen trying to pass important bills, the organizations and efforts already fighting animal abuse DAILY... that sort of thing. My own donations and mailings may not be much alone, but together with the efforts of those organizations they can and DO make a difference. I don't understand why you decided supporting those efforts is unworthy of further discussion and now you only want people to direct message you --what for? secret ideas? That was an unnecessary insult to disclude me. Good luck with those "secret private message plans." Just the way you want to get the word out for a worthy cause. Seriously.....I don't know why you cut me off or why when I posted "some of my ideas" to start, you deemed them not enough. I guess I might have taken a little offense to your paraphrased "that is great but you have to admit it is not enough" post you replied to me with. I did say it was just a starting place, did not claim it to be an ultimate fix and I did ask for your ideas too! I think I was being fair when I asked what you have done or what you plan to do -- even though that has seemed to offend you for some reason. My point was that doing ANYTHING is better than just complaining that no one was doing something. I also complimented you, saying I thought you had the "fire and people would like to respond." I asked what you had in mind and told you why -- that if feasible I would be willing to join in your efforts. So, I am unsure where the "miscommunication is here" either. We should be on the same side, as long as we are both doing something. If you were serious about a Million Man March effort, that could easily tailhook right on to the Chloe bill, or the current Joint Task Force on Breeders and Pet Stores just started this month in Illinois, two efforts I feel strongly about and write about to legislators, making a plea for their support. I would be glad to share info on those efforts if you are going to organize a march. The Chloe bill is not perfect, but it is one of the most comprehensive bills to thwart puppymills going. If you wanted to organize a march to support it's passing, I think that would be wonderful! If you had in mind a national basis, you might want to liaison with the Humane Society of the United States, and its partner organization -- the Humane Society Legislative Fund. It is the largest animal protection group in the country and they work to change laws. I also have some Rescue email addresses that would be HAPPY for the support. My personal opinion is working through state laws and smaller rescues an make more of an impact unless you do grow an organization to a significant size to make a national impact. But you might feel different on that too. Just because an effort has not already turned a problem around completely, it does not mean they aren't making progress and would make a lot more progress if they could get the support of the masses instead of just a few. I still firmly believe assets can best be utilized by coordinating with efforts already in place. There is no reason to start from scratch when doors are already opened on many fronts. And do not underestimate what can be done from one's home phone, checkbook and computer. That very same "grass roots movement" made all the difference in the world to the last 3-4 national elections. I respect that you feel differently and want to start something new but you don't ever answer what it is. You wrote, "I am looking for and to people who are willing to try and fail rather than not try at all." But try what? That was my question -- I never wanted any "tit for tat" list. That is just silly. But you never said what it was you have done or plan to do at all. I know you want to bow out, so I won't expect you to answer. I do hope you come up with a great plan and it all works to the betterment of animal protection of any kind. It is such a worthwhile cause that any efforts on their behalf are commendable. I am serious about sharing info if you have any interest. The Chloe Bill is sort of a pet project for me. I grew up in Illinois. I also want to solicit support for the rescues any time I can because I think they help where it is the hardest -- face to face with the poor abused and neglected animals! So good luck to you.

| I think you are right Sookie. I am sure you can't palpate them yet, get an ultrasound or xray. They might be able to tell with a blood test, but not sure on that account either. So, she really cannot say for sure she is pregnant, just that supposedly she saw them tie.

I am not offended by anything you have asked me. I got the feeling you wanted to shut down the discussion. If that is not the case I apologise. From this last post of yours I am feeling more like you are more open to the discussion. For that I am grateful as anyone can see you are passionate about the subject. For what it's worth, I have volunteered at shelters since I was a teen and always support locally with donations of wish list items as well as money. I have signed petitions and wrote congressmen in the past. Perhaps we can start a thread apart from this one and carry ideas over and keep brainstorming. We may get more people participating then? | |
