I know what you're going through. I have two I got as puppies. I know just by the waay they act what they are thinking, etc. I got Rita just three weeks ago, she's 6 years old. She was rehomed from a breeder in Arizona. Rita sleeps alot, doesn't play with toys or other two dogs. Almost seems depressed, but actually I don't think she knows any other way of life. She is starting to come around to all the attention we lavish on her, but it's going to take a long time. I do not think she was abused physically, just ignored. Other than feeding or bathing her I don't think the lady that had her paid any attention to her for 6 years! It saddens me because my other two are so happy. I wish I knew how Rita felt.

I feel the same way as you, although my Stormy was a 1 and a half when I bought her, I still feel a bit sad that I didn't get to experience her puppy stage, I love her so much and I can't imagine life without her but I find myself wondering, what she looked like and how she acted. She acted way different before and now within the last couple months she has done a 360 degree turn and is a totally new dog, she gets her little puppy mood and wants to play and play bite, she runs, jumps and thinks she can get away with so much lol

I think adding another dog to the mix has improved her personality as well, she grew up with another dog til I got her and now she has a big bullie sister she loves to boss around

IMO what they have as a puppy never really leaves. They mature into adult dogs, however the personality they're born with never really leaves them. That's just my personal opinion. I must say that even tho you don't know it you have brightened my day. That's why I love this site. I can pop on when I'm feeling down and get a good laugh and feel a little better.

Your message is very uplifting and gives me hope. I know Rita enjoys the attention we give her but I also think she's not sure what to make of it. To see my other two running & playing, having fun, and doing little personality quirks while she just lays there showing no interest at all, just breaks my heart. I hope Rita will be like your Stormy and make a turn around too. I want her to be a happy, confident dog.Thanks for the encouragement!

Oh I so relate to this. Sugar's first momma called him Scooter. Once, when I had had him for 2 or 3 months, he was sitting on my lap. I whispered very quietly... scooter... His head whipped around so quick, it broke my heart.

I tried again a few months later and , nothing. He's my little doggie soul mate though and we both know it!

It's funny because he is so much more bonded to me than any dog I've ever had from puppyhood.

We hyphenated Audrey-Belle's name to include her old name (Belle). Less confusion for her, she would still know her name till she got to know her new name. Yorkies are smart, he knows "Scooter" was his name once and responded to it. Don't worry he knows his new mamma and his new name and loves them both!

I've only had Brandi now for 7 months and I can see a big difference in her. When I first brought her home, she never left my side. Now she is beginning to venture out own her own. I didn't even know Brandi could bark, now she has turned into my alarm system. She never bark when I first brought her home. Whenever she heard loud noises she cower in fear, it was so sad to see her this way. Now she has so much more confidence. She was even scared of my cat at first. Now she just ignores her unless of course the cat is getting my attention and she isn't

But after much love and patience her personality is coming through. A big break for me was when she started carrying my sock in her mouth. Brandi doesn't play with anything so when I saw her playing with my sock, I knew we had made a breakthrough.

Believe me, although there were fun times, while Buddy was chewing
his way threw our house , it was very stressfull too.
Look at it this way: Lucky you to not have to go threw the trials and
tripulations of puppyhood. Yokies always look like puppies and for the
most part always act like them as well. Your an angel to rescue your
baby. You have the best of both worlds. A yorkie to love without all
the pee and poop to clean up and a campanion who will love you
till the end of time.

Hey, this makes me feel really optomistic! How old was your Brandi when you got her? What was she like when you first got her?

Sugar and Scooter are similar enough in sound that he didn't have any problems adjusting. I've had him now for over 3 years and it's been a long time since he's responded to Scooter. Haha, he definitely knows who his momma is. He's crossed the line of love straight into worship. How can I not love him to pieces?

He's the best little guy. It's so funny because even though I got him at a year and a half, he has bonded to me much more than any dog I've had from puppyhood. We're a little obsessed with each other.

She sounds just like my Audrey-Belle.
