Oh I so relate to this. Sugar's first momma called him Scooter. Once, when I had had him for 2 or 3 months, he was sitting on my lap. I whispered very quietly... scooter... His head whipped around so quick, it broke my heart.  I tried again a few months later and , nothing. He's my little doggie soul mate though and we both know it!  It's funny because he is so much more bonded to me than any dog I've ever had from puppyhood. |
We hyphenated Audrey-Belle's name to include her old name (Belle). Less confusion for her, she would still know her name till she got to know her new name. Yorkies are smart, he knows "Scooter" was his name once and responded to it. Don't worry he knows his new mamma and his new name and loves them both!
