| Dog vs. Cat Just curious, obviously we all must be "dog people" because we're here on this forum. But were you ALWAYS a dog person? Or were you a cat person? Or neither? *I tried to see if I could make a poll - but I don't see where that is* For me, I've been a dog person my whole life. I've never really been a "cat person." I got my first dog at the age of 4, a Golden Retriever named Daisy. Begged my parents apparently from the ages of 2 and up for a dog and finally got my Daisy! lol. At the age of 9, I got "my" German Shepherd, Sadie. They both were more family dogs than anything. But I've just always been that person that loved every dog I came across. When I was little, most of my favorite movies were dog-related, my toys were little dog action figure things, LOL. Bottom line -- I'm a dog person. I just am. Cats have always annoyed me, LOL. Not to be mean. I think they're very cute (moreso when they're kittens!) but that's about it. All the cats I've ever been around always hide, you never see them because they like to do their own thing, they're just too "prissy" for my liking. I know some people like how low-maintence they are but the reason I enjoy dogs so much better is they're better companions (in my opinion) ... you can take them for walks, they enjoy doing things with you, they greet you and totally are excited whenever you get home even if you've left for 5 minutes. I don't know.. there's just something about a dog that appeals to me so much more than a cat! But I know everyone has different opinions so let me hear them!

| I've always been a dog person. However, when I was younger I loved how cute kittens were but weren't interested in the adult cats. Several years after I had adopted my Shih Tzu, I had fallen in love with a kitten in a pet store window. I did not buy it but kept thinking about it and was sad to eventually see it gone weeks later. It was maybe months or a year later when I spotted another one I had liked instantly. This was in a different pet store's display window. After leaving the store on the way home, I had to call back and say I will pick her up later that day after I picked up some supplies. My cat did start off as being fairly independent and very curious. Then she got to the stage where she acted the part of a dog and bird. She would run to my then boyfriend, now hubby on call no matter where she is in the house. She'd dash down or up stairs to the other end of the house upon his call. She'd also perch on his shoulder or climb there as if she was a parrot. She never hid from strangers, etc. Now, she's gotten to be super clingy. More clingy and needy than my yorkie though she doesn't suffer from separation anxiety, just last night, after being out all day, when the hubby and I returned, before we opened the door, she was barking at us from the other side 4 times. Well, not literally barking, but doing her version of complaining. She only hides from children visiting. Mainly 2 of my nephews. I've read of people who walk their cats. I've known one person who does on a leash. I know one other person who used to walk his cats around the neighbourhood, or rather, the cat follows behind in the past when he had cats. I've seen a cat perched on the dash of a semi-truck. I've seen a cat standing on its hinds looking out the window like a dog in a car we passed on the highway. Hubby was just telling me how his friend's cat would be "barking" through their screen door at a foreign kitty on their yard. When he finally opened the door for his cat to go chase away her nemesis, she just chickened out and ran further into the house. That's very yorkie, like, you think? Hubby used to get annoyed with his neighbour's cat always using his garden as a litter box. I'm not crazy about the overpopulation of cats left outside to defecate as they please and where they please either. Some are strays, some aren't. I know my parents' neighbour's outdoor cat(s) were left behind when they moved also. They've always had a number of cats. It's difficult to keep count. |

| I've actually always been a cat person. I've always felt a strong draw to them, and have a knack for "speaking cat", as it were-- I'm good at calming them down, telling when they are uncomfortable and stuff like that. I adore my yorkie, but she was kind of an unplanned pet-- the place I was working at the time wound up taking in 30 yorkies from an animal hoarder, and Penny looked up at me with those big brown eyes and I was toast. She's a lot of fun, and I like having an animal that will hike and spend time outdoors with me, but sometimes I feel like I'm dealing with a creature from another planet. I've done a lot of reading on dog behavior and training to try to bring myself up to par as a dog owner. My other two pets are cats-- a Siamese mix named Timothy and a domestic shorthair named Benjamin. I like the relative independence of cats, how similar they seem to wild cats even after thousands of years of domestication, and the feeling that I don't *own* my cats-- we just happen to occupy the same space and they coerce me to give them food. One of my cats-- the Siamese mix-- actually reminds me a little of the dog. He likes car rides and adventures almost as much as the dog does.

| I like kittens, not a cat person at all, they're too independent for me. Now my sons fiance does have one, a calico, that is probably one of the only cats I can actually say I do like. If she's outside, I can call her by name, and she will come over to me. I don't hate cats, just don't really like them |

| Had dogs growing up, added cats as a senior in HS. Always had mutt dogs and cats. Got my first Yorkie in 1980 bc I had always wanted one since I can remember. Same with a Himalayan cat. First Yorkie (Corey) was stolen, got the 2nd (Sophie Anne) in 1982. Got the best mutt cat ever(Razz) in 1988. Neighbor was abusing his Maltese, we offered to take him and did (Little Lou) in 1989. Found kitten by busy roadside (KittyMonsta) in 1990. Someone dumped a GSD mix (Biggy D) in our yard in 1991. We kept her. KittyMonsta passed in 1994. Sophie Anne passed in 2000. Adopted stray cat found being led into traffic by children in 2001 (mrKitKat). Rescued current Yorkie (Peek a Boo) in 2002. Little Lou passed in 2005, Razz passed in 2006, And Biggy D passed in 2008. Adopted Bengal cat from relatives (Jazz), and Himilayan (Tazz) from Humane Society end of 2008. Adopted Yorkie from Humane Society April 1, 2009 (Tinkerbell). My cats hide from strangers. If people stay long enough, they come out to investigate. Except for people who don't care for cats, then they're right there, rubbing on them and up on their laps! MrKitKat loves to help me cook. He sits on the trash can lid where he can see into the pot or pan. I have to watch him cause he keeps trying to stir stuff! Tazz (Himi)is the bad boy but like a Yorkie: he's so cute you can't seriously yell at him. He can count too. He likes to lick your fingers individually after you eat. 5 is done, he won't leave you if he's only done 3 or 4! When I go potty, he races into the tub to play peekaboo behind a lace shower curtain. I truly think that he thinks I can't see him! Jazz (Bengal) is outrageous. His fur is so silky, I could pet him all day long. He is a gentle giant. Except with meat. You must never, never, never leave wrapped or unwrapped meat out even for a second. He can break open the package and have raw pork chop on the floor munching away before you even start counting! They all love it when I come home from shopping. I don't usually buy them anything special from the grocery store, but they all go through and stick their heads in the bags. I know Jazz is in search of meat, Tazz just does it cause everybody else is doing it, and I caught MrKitKat licking celery one day (?) I could never live without Yorkies or cats. I am a catdog person. Actually, MrKitKat helped me figure out my 1st Yorkie rescue, Peek a Boo. Peek a Boo comes when you call 'Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty'. I mean like lightning. Peek humps mrKitKat daily, at least.(odd) And Peek a Boo loves cat food. I really think Peek a Boo was raised with cats and thinks he is one! So I became more accepting of odd catlike behaviors and we get along great now! I even put a little cat food in with his dog food so he doesn't feel like he has to steal it.

| Growing up I was a total cat person. After college for some reason I became a dog person. Now that I have a Yorkie, I know I will always be a yorkie person. I have had several breeds of dogs and I have to say Yorkies are totally in a class of their own. At first I thought it was just my Yorkie, but now that I have met others they have the most distinct personality. I don't think I could ever not be owned by a Yorkie!!!

| I have one of each! They are very different but I like that. Ginger (yorkie) is my active one and Pepper (the cat) is my cuddler. They are the best of friends. I don't feel bad leaving the house because I know they have each other. When I'm gone, Ginger is in her xpen. Pepper jumps in and sleeps with Ginger. It's really cute! Prior to these two I had another yorkie, Sunny, and another cat, Allie. I really enjoy having this combo. It's a blast. I also think that it's great company for them both and a little easier as far as maintenance.
