| My yorkie doesn't Howl?!?! As weird as this sounds, I wish my yorkie would howl. It's always just come natural for all of my other dogs, but I've only heard my yorkie howl one time. She only did this because I put her in my bedroom when a friend of mine came over, and she wanted to see him. But...I love when dogs howl at the sound of a siren (ambulance, police, firetruck) and she could care less. She hardly even barks...I grew up with my parents dogs barking for a treat, barking when you get home, barking at strangers or noise, and howling when they hear a siren. Maybe its just one of those familiar noises that most wish they didn't have to live with, but I miss. Does anybody else have a non-howling yorkie?

Thor's Human Donating Member | Ha! I have never heard this complaint before. My dog does not howl, but he makes a lot of other very strange noises. I think this is common to yorkies. Sometimes he chirps like a bird, meows like a cat, or squeals like a pig. It's like having an entire barnyard in one four pound animal! Maybe these new noises will provide some consolation.

| Suzi has never Howled. But, when she was a pup she hardly ever barked> Not she does> only when she hears people when we are inside our apartment. She tells us! Suzi is a great little watchdog! I love that about her! If she ever Howeled though, I would be alarmed, thinking she would be in pain.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | My first yorkie, Trace, would howl. He did it whenever someone came over and didn't immediately pay attention to him. It was a very wee howl...and funny as heck. None of mine howls....but barking is another story.

| Really? Bud can Oh boy can he! I only heard him twice and ran back up the steps to shake the can of pennies. The first time I was out side going to my car when I heard this ungodly howling. I listened closer and realized it was coming from my unit. I ran back up the steps and the howling I heard brought goose bumps on my arms it was that bad. I never knew he could do such a thing. I hope I corrected it because the neighbor's have not said anything. |

| i think it's super funny when milu howls, so i always run to her to give her attention when she howls. my fiance hates it and says he can't believe i would encourage her to do that. other than wanting attention, milu is a pretty quiet dog. the only time she barks is if you ask her to ("talk" command) or if she is really excited and want to play. (or when she thinks you are unfair, and she talks back. lol. )

Also, you might try getting her really worked up, and then howl YOURSELF. I think Thor's growl is hilarious, so I always growl at him when we play. I get up in his face and growl, and then try to get his toy, then he growls and I fall over laughing.
