Same with Maya. She did not bark really at all until she was probably a year old. When she's around other dogs that bark, she will bark a lot more, but when its just her she only barks if she hears people outside or the UPS truck! I have tried so much to get her to howl, she will hear other dogs doing it, but all she doesn't care at all.
