Donating YT 10K Club Member | There ya go!!! I think it's a terrific idea Amanda. Just fuss over him and he'll think he looks GREAT. Plus it'll be so much easier to care for while he's recuperating. Btw, Reese had his leg shaved and a portion of his chest in Dec....well that still has not grown in enough to match the other and probably won't until he gets his summer do.

| He can have a fresh start all around! I agree with making him feel like you think he is very handsome, that's a good idea.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I recommend the shave down. Its so much easier for the dog and the tech/vet taking care of them. the hair is not dropping on the incision and its easier to keep away from the incision so its not sticking to it right after surgery. also its easier to keep them clean since you will not be able to bath Ranger for at least 3-4 weeks (i recommend waiting long to prevent slippage in the tub or any other accidents, which happen quite often). with the short coat you do not have to annoying them with brushings and preening during the sensitive time after surgery. plus you can buy some more clothes for him! just be careful about buying ones with pant legs. make sure they are easy to get on and off without bending him legs too much as he won't be able to do it after surgery.

I know I have already picked out a new spring wardrobe for both boys from Go Fetch. She's got some pretty cute fleece jackets!

Thanks for the tip on the bath and slipping. I haven't thought that far ahead but thanks for bringing it up now.

I recommend a haircut and a good bath before surgery because your not gonna be able to do it for a while afterwards. Also make sure you have everything you'll need before you bring him home after surgery. make sure the crates, ex-pens, baby gates, area rugs, carpet runners, whatever you are going to use are set up. comply with teh restrictions, exercises, and rehab and you will both do great!!!
