| Wow..what a heartwarming story..made my night ![]() Harley is just so adorable and i'm so happy the little guy has a safe and secure and loving home with you! I personally don't think it is a good idea to have a very small dog with very young children...just my opinion, and i'm sure alot would disagree with me but Unless you are willing and able to supervise at all times and teach the child to be gentle and respectful, it will not work, and will only end in tears.

| You and Harley are so lucky to have each other...I'm so glad you are showing him what a loving home is like. Bless you for saving this precious baby! As for small children and small dogs....i do think it depends on the how the children are raised...i know they are wonderful mothers to both skin kids and fur babies here...and i love hearing how well they get along. As for me, i have a 3 year old daughter...who is usually very gentle...but i have come to the decision to wait to get my furbaby until my daughter is older. Its so hard to wait, but i know in my situation that my family as a whole will be happier when the time comes to get our new puppy. Besides, i get exhausted just running after my daughter all day, i couldn't handle 2 babies right now. |

| My little dog Moses broke his leg the day after I got him. He was 10 months old. I have had 2 yorkies for the past 6 years and they always slept with us and would jump off our bed with no problem. Before anyone screams, we did lift them down most times, but when the refrigerator door opens, down they would go before we could catch them. So, I put Moses on our bed with Isabel, and early in the morning I got up to go to the bathroom. My other dogs always stayed still when I got up, but not thinking about him being in a new environment and being nervous, I left him on the bed. He jumped down to get to me and broke his leg. Guilt is not even the word. I just didn't think he would be any different from my Harley (who was killed by a dog in Dec) and Isabel. Anyway, we took him to the vet, he set his leg and after 2 months, decided it wasn't healing, bone was deterioating, so he amputated it. Poor little Mosey, new home and loses his leg! Does he notice? Nope. Like you said, he was up the next day and now it's been 4 months later, he runs, plays, does everything (except jump off the bed!!). He is my sweety and while I can now get up at night to pee and he doesn't come too, he is still at my feet every step I take when I am home. I am extra careful with him, but really, he is a happy, healthy little guy and we wouldn't rrade him for the world. Now Isabel might have a different story! |

| I have a 4 year old granddaughter that always wants to play with Ginger. The rules are that she is never to pick her up and that she is to sit on the floor and pet her. Of course I do not ever leave them unsupervised. Kids are unpredictable (well at least all I have ever been around) and you never can tell what might happen. If the child got a little scratch or even started giving kisses and the kid didn't like it they could very easily just throw them down. That was a wonderful thing that you did with Harley. Our babies don't have to be perfect to love them (just like our husbands). ![]() Ginger and her Mommy |

That is exactly what I was thinking, it depends on the Adults in the house not the kids!! When I first brough my yorkie home he was only 7 weeks and 2 pounds, it took a lot of supervision and drilling into my 8 year old son's head that we had to be very careful. Now sometimes Motley is rougher with my son then my son is with him. | |
