| No reputable breeder would ever sell their puppies to a petstore. Reputable breeders care about their puppies and want to know where they are going so that they can be sure they are placed in the best homes possible. Petland does get all their puppies from Puppymills. Some of your small, local petstores may also purchase from backyard breeders...but all breeders that sell to petstores must be USDA licensed for commercial selling. But none of these petstores get puppies from reputable breeders, no matter what lies they feed to their customers. Petstores get their puppies from Puppymills.

| Browniesmom is so right. Please, please stay away from Petland. A google search on them will give you a ton of insight into how horrible they are but here's a start- Search Results | The Humane Society of the United States Please do not support any store who sells dogs.

| Please DO NOT BUY ANYTHING from a store that sells dogs! You are supporting their horrid practices. The exception is how Petsmart or Petco will have a rescue come in with available pets Here's some good info Stop Puppy Mills

| I'm sorry but I have to disagree with a couple of you here as there are exceptions to the rule. Yes, for the most part, pet stores are bad, especially the big commercial ones or chain stores...but...there are some good pet stores out there. Case in point: We have a pet store in our mall here but they do not take puppies from breeders. They are a small store who takes the mixed breed puppies from the paper, gets them all spayed/neutered and shots up to date and then they adopt them out for the cost they have in them. They work with one of the shelters here and a local vet provides the medical services they need. They take donations and you do have to fill out an application before being allowed to take a puppy home. So, not all pet stores are bad but if you want to look in one it might be a good idea to do some research first. I would not hesitate to purchase a puppy from the pet store we have in our mall here...they provide a great service to this area. |

It's the petstores carrying dogs for PROFIT that are getting these puppies from mills and bybs

| I know you've already said you wouldn't get a dog from as pet store so this is more of a general statement; pet stores will also lie about where their dogs come from. I've read about this happening many times here on YT. They will say they bred the dogs or their mother or best friend or whatever even though they are getting them from mills or brokers who got them from mills. There is one near me who will swear up and down that they work closely with a few friends who breed a few dogs. From the number and constantly changing variety of breeds there is no way but regardless, that isn't how a good breeder sells their puppies.
