| Need Help PLEASE! AKC/CKC Hi. We have a 2 year old Yorkie. We bought him without his papers but the breeder went through AKC. We didn't register him and do not want to show or breed him. We have been looking at getting this new puppy but it says he is CKC. What does that mean? Does it really matter if they are AKC or CKC if we don't want to breed? |

Nah, those papers are only really to show them or breed. Peanut is akc and the breeder I bought him from was going to give me his papers, I looked at them, kind of interested but I didnt even want them, I wasnt going to sell him or breed him or show him or register him so I have no need for that. If you are just keep him as a pet then I wouldnt worry about it

| AKC registered puppies are the only puppies I will buy. AKC is an extremely reputable registry. Most of the dogs you buy that are AKC registered will come from lines that are healthy and to standard (the dogs will look like Yorkies and be the proper size). This obviously is not the case because illness and genetic differences are uncontrollable. However, other registries pretty much allow any dog to register. There is no guarantee that you dog is a pure-breed dog and not a mix. AKC breeders also have to follow a certain code of ethics. They also do routine inspections of kennels and breeders. If these codes are violated and reported, AKC can inspect the breeder and then take the proper disciplinary actions (i.e. suspension) Of course if you're just looking to buy a pet, it doesn't really matter.. as long as you are aware of the facts. From my research, the only breeders I would buy from also happen to be AKC registered.

| there are two different ckcs from what ive read here... if you adopted your dog from canada, your new pup is most likely the canadian kennel club (canadian equivalent to akc) if your dog was adopted in the US and its ckc, then its neither of the mentioned and i hear they're sketchier because they're not as strict as akc or something. hope it helped |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! The AKC has a publicized list of suspended breeders, and these breeders have to go somewhere, so the alternative registries have shown up. Jennzy is correct; there is a reputable Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) and a shady American club, called the Continental Kennel Club (CKC). I believe they took these initials to mislead the uneducated buyer, and they definitely have misled many people. They will register anything, and in my opinion the registry worthless because: Quote:

| I agree with registering your AKC puppies for the reasons set forth by previous posters. I would also like to suggest that we not buy puppies that are in registries that are not full federated members of the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI). This international organization: "The Fédération Cynologique Internationale is the World Canine Organisation. It includes 84 members and contract partners (one member per country) that each issue their own pedigrees and train their own judges. The FCI makes sure that the pedigrees and judges are mutually recognized by all the FCI members." AKC is a member...CKC (Continental Kennel Club) is not. If your kennel club is not a member of the Fédération, then I would have serious reservations about the quality of the puppy. Non-member kennel clubs have nothing to lose by encouraging the breeding of dogs that do not advance the breed. In my opinion, they are just scams to collect your money and give you nothing of value in return.

| Make sure you check out what health testing they have done and take a look at the parents and pups living enviroment. If you aren't showing for AKC then it will not matter.
