| What a rip-off  I know there is a thread on this under the FAQs, but that was a couple years back. When I looked up the latest on Northwest (now part of Delta) I found that hyper-inflation has apparently hit us - even as the price of aviation fuel has gone back down... Carry-on Pets Now it can be more expensive to take one of my 5 lb guys cross country round trip than it is for me to fly (and each weighs about 1/14th as much as I do, and did I mention they don't take up a seat?). What a jip!!! Does anyone know of any airlines that offers better deals than this blatant rip off? I know there is the service animal scam, I read about that on the FAQ, but I dont really want to go there. We should tell these airlines WE WON'T TAKE IT, but will consider their pet fees before we decide to choose their company. |

| ugggh! that is upsetting! especially if it'll cost you more!!! you should just make a reservation for an extra seat for your dog instead!!! i checked the price, to korea its $150 us/cdn which isn't bad... korean air charges $250 US/whatever cdn conversion is now that is expensive :P but for shorter distance, its not fair... i think everyone should have a domestic & international rate because if you're just flying to the next state and have to pay $150 and have it be the same price for 20 hr flight (or something) isn't fair to those travelling shorter distance |

| the cheapest airline that i have found to carry pets on is Airtran. It's 69$ each way. We're leaving for Florida on Saturday..and his ticket was actually more expensive than mine. I think if they are going to charge this much for our pets...the least they should do is allow them to sit ON the seat..rather than under it.

| I totally agree, it is a rip-off!! However, the under the seat thing is an FAA regulation, not the airlines. Also, I think the airlines are really hurting and they know they can charge this extra fee and people that take their dogs will pay it. It's not right, but I think airlines are just trying to make money wherever they can...charging for luggage, pets, drinks, food...it's all about the sucky economy these days I am flying with my guys on Thursday and it will cost me 400 bucks round trip, but yep, I'll pay it, 'cause I want them with me and I'm sure not leaving them anywhere without me. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do and I guess the airlines feel the same way.

| I am mad too. Why does it have to be so expensive! My husband did not believe me that you have to pay this much for a pet. He thinks it is free. i will be flying to wisconsin to visit my family for 3 days with United. I really want to take Charlie with me. But $150 for his ticket! that is unbelieveable! So I guess Charlie will be staying home with my in laws. I am worry though b/c they don't take good care of him. |

they should be able to travel free because the airlines see them as a carryon! so i was told (by korean air) that if i am travelling with a dog in a carrier, i am only allowed a purse (tote bag size) as my carryon or additional charges will be placed kind of o/t don't even get me started about airlines! i have caribbean airline telling me that they will refund the date change fee after i provide them with a medical documentation to why i couldnt travel on the original date, and now they're telling me they won't! THe yorkie fee should be NO MORE than an additional bag in my opinion. And the health certificate is also another rip off, last I checked, many states don't require it. If the states dont require it, the airline should not if your pet is a carry on. | |
