Donating YT 11K Club Member | I don't have kids but mine are around kids, my bf has a niece and she was 6 when i got them. Because of them she learned to be very gentle, she used to be so loud and rowdy. But now every time she sees them she lowers her voice, talks in a little baby voice and is so sweet to them, she loves them. I also have a 1 yr old niece that is learning to be around them. She is sooo gentle with them, she won't pull their hair or anything. She will just softly pet them and smile. And i have a little sister that was 7, and she learned tons about them. I think me having them around these kids has been a learning experience for them all and teaches them how to love animals and be kind.

| My son was 41 and my daughter 23 when we got Toto [our Yorkie]. They, however, were raised with pets and always did well with them regardless of how young they were. Christopher now has 3 dogs, Missy, a Border Collie, Trixie, large unknown breed, and Parker, God only knows what breed, all rescues. My Amanda works for a vet and has a purebred Westie and a rescue, part black Lab ... other part unknown. Every single one of my Grandpups are just as spoiled as any Yorkie and they are all "kid friendly"!!

| My boys were 7, 9 and 12 when we first had our yorkies. They have done very well with them. We just have to remind them no rough play in the house even though they never were allowed to before dogs. I would agree that yorkies seem to love being around kids as much as kids love them. Mine will cry, jump all excited each day as my youngest 2 come home from school. They go completely nuts so happy to see them. As long as kids know to respect the dog due to their size, it should be such a great experience for them. |
