My son was 41 and my daughter 23 when we got Toto [our Yorkie]. They, however, were raised with pets and always did well with them regardless of how young they were. Christopher now has 3 dogs, Missy, a Border Collie, Trixie, large unknown breed, and Parker, God only knows what breed, all rescues. My Amanda works for a vet and has a purebred Westie and a rescue, part black Lab ... other part unknown.
Every single one of my Grandpups are just as spoiled as any Yorkie and they are all "kid friendly"!!
