| YT 1000 Club Member | I'm confused because so many say this happens before getting them fixed. But Roxie was fixed as soon as she was old enough and at the right weight. She was about 4 months old or so and never went into heat. Why does she hump if this is the case? It's only with the one big white bear (beginning to see a pattern with white bears from others posts) and nothing else. If I took that bear away from her she'd never hump anything. |

| I agree with those that say it isn't ok. I don't see any good that can come of it, and aside from the minority of people who think it's cute, most people seem to find it quite objectionable. |

I believe different dogs have different levels of testosterone, though of course it is strongly affected by "fixing." That's why some female dogs mark, and some male dogs never do. I agree with others that it can be about sex and/or dominance. It grosses me out personally, so I'm very greatful Thor doesn't hump. Though I guess I couldn't complain if he was in a monogamous relationship with one stuffed toy and discreet. | |

| LOL.. poor little boys get such a bad rap. Both of my boys are nuetered.. Sunnie used to hump his stuffed doggie.. but quit after nuetering... Beamer on the other hand.. doesn't hump a lot..... but once he does.. he doesn't give up easily. Last night I was laughing my butt off at him. He decided to try to hump Ladybug.. Ladybug is 16 pounds and Beamer is 7 pounds. Of course he didn't really know what he was doing (after all he doesn't even lift his leg to pee and he is almost 2!) Since she was laying down.. he ended up straddling her over her back and started humping.. He was enjoying himself until she decided she had enough and stood up to walk away. Poor Beamer was high centered on her back and got a piggy back ride.. lmao

| Both males and females can do it, and it's usually a sign of dominance. It has nothing to do with sex. I discouraged mine because I've seen people let it go, and then next thing they know, the dog is humping a person. Or, the dog will do it at an inappropriate time, like when company is over. I've always heard you should discourage this behavior. Since it's a show of dominance, they have to learn that YOU are the alpha and not them. My boys did the same thing at that age, and I told them no and took the toy away. I didn't take it away for good, just took it and put it in their toybox. It didn't take long at all before they stopped. Neutering usually helps, but not always.

| 3 of mine hump. Diesel, Lilly, and Lola. The girls seem to do it to mimic Diesel, because they only do it after watching him bug everyone and everything with it. If I see them doing it, they get scolded and must stop. Sorta like a toddler. When my boys were little, if they were playing with their "toy", I told them no-no and they had to stop. My grandma has a stuffed dog for her Murphey (Joe's brother). He is fixed and humps the daylights out of that thing. She lets him drag it out in the middle of the livingroom right in front of company She gets upset if anyone scolds him because its "natural". My mom puts it up when she goes to visit It makes everyone very umcomfortable to have a conversation with a dog "making love" as my grandma calls it, to a stuffed animal right next to them.

| I totally believe it is sexual most of the time for Diesel. He does the whole "humping air" thing if I take something away from him. I totally believe its because he was stimulated and not because he is trying to dominate the air. Not to mention, he is super submissive and does not have one dominating bone in his body.

| Wookie is a humper too, has been since he was very little (like when we brought him home!) and continued even after being fixed. His favorite thing is pillows! I probably would just let him do it, except he has a little problem. His little 'thing' comes out too far (the WHOLE thing, base of it and all!) and gets stuck out and starts turning purple. I have spoke with several vets about it and it is common, but can be dangerous. They can get bacteria from it, or if it stays out, it could actually die! (Scarey!) So I try my best to stop him, but it doesn't always work. I end up having to put mineral oil or sugar on it to get it to go back in! I never, ever in a million years thought that is something I would be doing!!! Haha, the things we do for our babies, huh?????

| Lucy has never humped, so this is not really an issue for me. However, I was really worried by the comments made by an earlier poster (sorry, forgotten name) whose yorkie ended up with a blistered penis. The friction involved in humping (and most of us should know this) can sometimes cause problems - so I think maybe we should all be taking an 'anti-humping' stance to avoid this happening to furbabies?
