Opinions on humping? So Walker the little weed is now humping like a beast. He's 5 months old now. It is his job, or at least he thinks so. :) He was only doing it on a giant white stuffed bear so we took that away. Now he folds up his bed and goes at it. He hasn't done it to any people yet. I know its a sign of dominance. My question is does it really hurt anything to let him be? He's next to impossible to stop and when you take his "date" away he humps the air and looks up at me with sad little broken hearted eyes. haha. Unless there is a reason other than dominance I think we may just let him marry his stuffed bear and leave it be. :rolleyes: Thanks everyone! |
It is normal and I would much rather have them humping a stuffed animal than someones arm or leg. When hes neutered he may slow down or stop. At least My Chachi did |
Gus folded his "puppy" bed & humped it before & after neutering. So, he now has a non-hump blanket in place of the bed. No more humping. After neutering, I think it's best to discourage the behavior. |
He's not neutered yet so we'll see if that lessens the *cough* urges *cough* hehe:):rolleyes: |
Tricksie is 2 years old and was spayed. This week she started humping her toy. I was told that it was being in control. |
It should stop after being neutered. If not, then it's dominance. Sapphire is a good little "virgin dog" lol. She has never humped anything and if anyone or anything gets to close to her down there, she attacks! :p |
"humping" behavior is used by dogs of both sexes as a signal of dominance, and has nothing to do with breeding. This behavior may never stop after neutering, since it's not sexual. When you see your dogs "humping" tell them "NO!", and make them stop. |
I allow Romeo to hump his stuffed animals. He's not hurting anyone and it makes him happy. I think a few bears are pregnant. lol...;) |
i read that you're supposed to tell your dog no and make him stop.. mickey used to hump my stuffed teddy bear then moved on to people's arms and legs i was young when it happened (9 years old) and i didn't know what he was doing and i thought he was dancing. and i told my parents and they had thiss horrid look on their faces! (they never really told me what mickey was doing) and a week later mickey got neutered. then he never humped ever again. it wasn't like he humped less and less after he healed from his surgery ive never EVER seen him do the "dance" its like he went cold turkey :P |
Riley is almost 2 years old, and he only humps his foam beds, but if I leave him alone with it he will tear it to pieces! So.... he no longer gets any nice comfy beds to lie in....which makes me sad cuz you can get some really nice beds, but he will totally distroy it if I leave him alone. He has been neutered since he was five months old, and no matter how much I tell him no, he just can't seem to help himself. But if anyone has any ideas, I would be willing to listen.... |

Thanks guys for all your help! I think I'm gonna let him be for know since he's just showing his stuffed animal that who's boss...which over the stuffed animal, he is!:) And then we'll see what happens post neuter. |
My little guys are just 15 weeks old and one humps the other I did put a stop to it with being very diligent and stopping him everytime he did it I know they are setting up roles of dominance and as long as it's not something that's distracting like humping humans or another dog it's probably ok |
