| Okay, well all you experts....can someone tell me why my little Sparky (who turned 2 years old in November, and has been neutered since he was 5 months old) wakes up and jumps off the couch and starts humping the air. He has done it twice in the last week. He's never done it before. He wakes up from sleeping on the couch, jumps down on the floor and proceeds to hump the air, and looks up at me so confused, as if to say, "help me, what's going on here." I do not think it's sexual, but he's not trying to dominate anything but air. So can someone tell me what's going on with him? |

| I don't see what the big deal is about? My little guy got neutered when he was 3 months old (he's now 9 months) and he humps his teddy bear all the time! I think it's completely normal. I just don't have the heart to take her away from him. I would have a problem if he started humping people's legs, but he has never tried that. Anyways just letting some of you know that his didn't stop after he was neutered.

My Dexter is fixed and once in awhile, he'll hump his brother 2 - 3 pumps and thats it. My Fletcher is not fixed and I have never seen him hump anything! (Weird huh?)

| How about this situation... My dexter when he was about 4 months old, started licking himself 'down there' and his whole lipstick would come out and he would slurp away for 20 mins... in front of company all the time. First he will walk around and whine for 10 mins before he gets to his business. I took him to the vet and she recommended having him neutered. So at 5 months he was neutered. This did not stop him. He is almost 4 years old and does this daily. Sometimes twice a day and I don't know why. He will do it when company is over all the time and usually position himself right in line of sight of the person. His whole lipstick will be out and he'll lick and lick himself for 20 mins non-stop until it finally goes away. What is that??? So essentially he gets an erection probably 2x a day and he is fixed and has been since he was 5 months old.

| Yeah isn't that awful? I feel bad for him. My mom thinks he is uncomfortable and does not want it to happen, sometimes it happens when he is running around playing and he has to stop for 20 mins to help himself and he whines about it. We try to distract him when he starts but it does not help, hes single minded when it happens. I feel bad for him! I don't know what else to do for him.

i have no answers either.... He's been fixed too, and still behaves like he is frustrated .I have a 11 month old girl who is a humper and when she gets into the mood there is no stopping her. Distratction does not always work with these determined little guys .

| Thor's Human Donating Member | Clearly we have some exhibitionist dogs here! I would suspect that the dogs are enjoying themselves. Just like some dogs figure out how to open cabinet doors, some dogs are bound to figure out how to "pleasure" themselves. In all seriousness, it sounds like it might be an x-rated self-calming ritual. That would explain why it's in front of company. Do strangers make him nervous? Maybe you just need to try the old standbys to de-stress your dog: exercise, mental stimulation, etc. As I've said, Thor is almost always a perfect gentleman, but his manhood does perk up occasionally, especially after a nap. I wonder if he's dreaming of an entire basket of white bears! |

| Right after we got her, Prada would stand this big stuffed animal up and go to town on it. We just kind of looked at each other wondering if we were supposed to discourage her or just let it be. We still let her play with it but after we told her no that night and picked her up she hasn't done it since.
