| ![]() Well, Panne came back today. If you don't know the story we might adopt him and are having a trial session. The same problems exist as before: he marks, whines/barks out of excitement, and constantly sniffs and licks my dogs privates. For the marking: he is kept on leash or in an exercise pen. We cleaned our carpets and he hasn't marked in our house yet. He did, however, mark in the pet store. I'm probably going to order a belly band tonight, so if you know where I can get one let me know. He is not neutered but the person re-homing him thinks I shouldn't spend money to get him neutered unless I'm sure I'm keeping him. I really want to though since this is becoming a big problem and if neutering doesn't stop it I will not adopt him. Whining/barking: he loves other people and dogs. Tonight for some reason he ran up to some people and started barking at them. He has never done this before and I don't know why he is now. He usually whines and barks when he wants to see other dogs/people across the street or in the store, but this time he ran up to the people and started barking at them. What should I do when he whines or barks? The biggest problem is the sniffing. He was here 5 days before and CONSTANTLY licked/chewed my dogs privates. It has gotten to the point where I have to separate him because my dog cannot even lay down. My mom said if this is how it's going to be we cannot keep him. He gets to the point where he pants out of anxiety. It isn't happy or tired panting, but obsessive panting. That's all he wants to do. If I let him roam around my house he will run to where my dog is and start sniffing him. I do not know what to do when he does this. People say he is just trying to get to know him but this is excessive. Should I separate him? Or keep letting him sniff? I can't just let him sniff him forever because I'm worried he will mark in our house so I have to watch him at all times and I'm not always with my dog. I'm almost in tears because I want to keep him so badly. I just don't know what to do. Vanessa |

| ![]() I can tell you that before Bobby was neutered he was very into other dogs privates. He also marked. He had his surgery in September and no longer marks and has calmed down completely with the other doggies. Now he just wants to play and doesn't try to smell them or mount them. Good luck with your decision. |

| ![]() I think the neutering will help a little but I think he needs to be corrected on the behavior also. These seem to be small problems just annoying. Maybe you could have a trainer help you. They seem very fixable. In my past experience a leash in the house is helpful until you establish boundries. If he has a leash on and he is excessivly sniffing you can correct him. If you work on basic commands like sit and stay, when he starts to do this pull him away and make him sit and stay in front of the other dog to see this is what you expect. He has to fix these problems or no one will want him ![]()

| ![]() Last night I tried the leash thing and telling him no everytime he did the sniffing I'd tell him no. All it did was make him scared of me and he would cautiously walk up to Nicky instead of running up to him (because he was scared). I did this for 20 minutes or more. If I'm going to hire a trainer, I might as well just get him neutered. This morning he was the same as before so it didn't help at all. I'm going to see if it improves by tomorrow night, otherwise I'm going to talk to my parents and the owner and see if I can schedule him a neuter on Friday. I really think it will improve his behavior. I just can't handle him like this. It is too hard on my dog. I love my dog more than anything in the world and I don't want to put him through this his last few months. |

| ![]() Neutering may or may not correct the behavior. If it does, it may take several weeks to see a change.

| ![]() Honey, why is his owner not taking care of this? He should be neutered regardless of who has him, and it is his owner's responsibility. I just don't get why she wouldn't take care of this, especially considering Panne's safety and happiness are riding on it. ![]()

| ![]() hi MAJOR problem is not being fixed. If you truely want to see how he'd be as a pet then you'd have to get him fixed. Or trust that those behavioral issues will subside when he is fixed. He whines at other people and dogs probably because he wants to go over and smell them because hes not fixed. Same for why he's up your other dogs butt and why he marks.

| ![]() I give my rescue's little pieces of boiled chicken to help them not be scared of me when I am working with them. Hopefully some of the trainers on this forum can help advise you on what do do.

| ![]() Thank you for all the advice. I think the owner just was not educated on how important neutering, because I know she loves him and has done the best she can for him. I am going to talk to her about getting him neutered anyway, because there is no way I'm going to keep him for sure if I don't know how he will act. Thanks again, Vanessa |

| ![]() Addison is new to our family. The first week he was the same way with our cat. Relentless, a month later and constant correcting he has calmed down significantly.

| ![]() Update: I have decided to go along with the neuter and he is getting neutered next week on Wednesday. I thought the marking was going along great but yesterday when my friends pug came over he snuck out of sight for a minute and this morning I found drops of dried pee. He also pooped. This is really strange because I take him out so often and he pooped once before when I had him the first time. I thought he was potty trained, but for poops if I don't take him out exactly when he wants to go he poops in the house I think. I guess he always has to be on a leash again. Vanessa |

| ![]() He is way cuter in real life than in pictures, but I'll take some at the dog park tomorrow and hopefully upload them on the weekend. I can't wait until he gets neutered, I really think it will help a lot. |

| ![]() Good for you getting him neutered! You can get a coupon from Friends of Animals for a discount on the neuter. Check out there website ![]() I truly believe this WILL help him. I think you will still need to train him to your rules and house and potty train (maybe get a BB anyway), but at least you know those hormones are not raging through his body and he can just be a dog ![]() A neutered boy is quite different and you will be pleased with the results as long as you stick to the training aspect as well ![]() |

| ![]() Sorry, what is a BB? Also I'm not sure what the Friends of Animals website is (I couldn't find the right one). I would really appreciate it if you could get me the link. Thank you for the support. I will let everyone know how it goes next week. |
