| petsmart grooming??? hi everyone, roscoe finally has his stitches out from neuter surgery! he and remy are both in desperate need of a serious bath and haircut. I get off work early and would like to take care of it, but I don't have an appointment at the vet (they normally groom Remy and it's pretty expensive) so I was thinking about running them to PetSmart. It is a lot cheaper I am just worried a) how they will turn out (quality ) and I'm scared to leave them...groomer on the phone told me they were swamped today and I would need to drop them off! haha i hate leaving my boys at the vet-much less, PetSmart-sorry if that sounds extremely snobby, but im a protective mama anyone have any experiences with PetSmart grooming? thanks!

| My experiences with groomers are like rolling the dice, one time the cut will be great, next time it looks like they put him through a shredding machine. The good thing is that the coat grows back quickly. Good luck |

| We've gone to the Petsmart near us for a few times. It's a hit or miss just like anything else really. I know this isn't helpful but it's good to know that they are all not the same. Good luck, let us know how your babies turn out.

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | From all the AWEFUL things I've heard about grooming at Petco and Petsmart both, I wouldn't even chance it if it were me. I looked up "Pet Grooming" in the Yellow Pages and then called around to get prices. I went with who was 1) cheapest AND 2) would let me stay instead of dropping her off! With the exception of 1 tiny little thing (and that was my fault...she asked and I didn't know what I wanted, but now KNOW that I don't want that done again!) my experiences with 2 different places have been great! Not only do I stay, so if they need to ask, I'm right there, but I also tell them Every area I want cut or shaved and every area I DON'T! Petsmart won't let you stay and do it with you there (is my understanding, but maybe that's wrong). To me both Petsmart and Petco are like Supercuts, or the like, and I wouldn't go there to get my hair cut, so I don't take Bella to the equivalent. ALSO, Petsmart and Petco are both pretty expensive!!! My vet does grooming for close to twice what they charge (so they are less expensive than the vet), BUT I pay half what they charge taking her to an independent groomer....AND I don't have to leave her! |

| I never had a bad experience at PetSmart. I noticed that sometimes the groomer does not give my dog an even haircut. Some long stray ends were not cut short like the rest of the dog's hair. I assumed this happens due to scheduling to groom a lot dogs in one day. Last edited by Lovely05; 11-14-2008 at 11:50 AM. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I've been to Petsmart twice with Aiden. I was happy both times. The first cut was prior to 6 months wich is 14.95 and it was very good. Nails and all. After reading the posts online here, I was very particular with what I wanted, and they did a great job I had his teeth done also and was very happy again. When she was done, the other girl was trimming him up the manger asked me if he looked o.k. I was happy they asked me. The girl at our local Petsmart was also very helpful in helping me with finding the right brush, nail clippers, and shampoos and conditioners. She explained to me about dog food and how certain thing affecting tear production ect. She also recommended a certain book, which I love. Now our Petsmart is under 1 year old,and we're outside the main city,so it's not as used and busy as some other Petsmarts I've been to.

| When I first got Jazzie I took her to petsmart to just have a few hairs clipped out of her eyes, geeeezz, I wish I had thought of clips, barrettes, to hold the hair .... because they shaved between her eyes, hair off her nose so when it started growing back what a nightmare, uuugh. I've never taken her back or Zander for that matter. Another day while visiting petsmart, I took a peak at the grooming area, sadly I saw a dog fall off the table , no damage was done to the dog but it shook me and it was not even my dog. Their prices are much higher than a regular groomer. Sometimes it is worth the wait for your regular groomer. Good luck

| You aren't snobby. If for some reason I "had" to allow someone groom Ellie and it had to be PetSmart, I would not leave her. Besides the horrible cuts that you hear about (which could happen anywhere), I wouldn't leave Ellie in a store with people I don't know. The vet is as far as I go with leaving her...

I chose to shop around a little since I thought $34 was a bit high for a bath and only a teeny bit of trimming...I mean, I only pay $40 for my haircuts, and that's at a very nice salon in Oklahoma City!! The first place I took her, only charged me $14, and they did a great job and let me stay. (I didn't take her back there the last time I had her groomed because they had started getting busier and I was told my choices would be to drop her off for several hours or add $10 for "express service" and they would do her while I waited....and that was with making an appointment 2 weeks in advance!) So, the 2nd place I took her charged me $20 for everything! Still close to 50% less than what Petco was going to charge. A lot more bang for my buck....and I get to stay with her and watch her to make sure she doesn't accidentally get dropped. (After reading the story of the Yorkie in the UK I think that jumped out of the bath and dangled from the edge by the collar and lead it was attached to, dying because someone stepped away for just a second, I won't leave my little one!!)

| Ahhh Petsmart- I have a love/hate relationship with them. Love them because they gave me my grooming start and I worked there for little over a yr. Hate because some of their policies are foolish. Anyways, my suggestion would be this: to determine if you would like to use Petsmart-go and stand at the window on a Sat afternoon and watch the grooming. You will be able to figure out who is the best, most gentle groomer-someone you would trust. Thats how I got a good portion of my customers. |

I have worked at a vets office for the past 7 years, when i first started out i was a dog walker, then worked in the kennel, then did bathing, and then asked to be a groomers assistant, and then finally became a vet tech. the groomer i worked with was great! never got mad at the animals, and did really well with puppies and cats. I learned a lot from her, and just watching animals being groomed at petsmart made me mortified. A girl I used to work with is now working at petsmart, and i know how she is, and i would ONLY trust her. I just dont think the people at petsmart are well educated with grooming. A few years ago, I was at a meet and greet with Greyhounds , and one of them brought their grey in to get his nails trimmed, and they literally put him up on the grooming table, which is a big no no! they should have done them on the floor. I would just sorta feel it out. GOod Luck

I decided to start grooming myself. Shoot over the long run you will save alot of money. I would definatly find a groomer you trust. Make sure they will let you stay and watch if you want. I will never take my baby to Petsmart again.

| I would not do it. Molly---who is very tolerant of groomers was stressed out when she went there...she caught worms there... they didn't take good care of her and they put those crate dryers (which i think is horrible) i think to dry.. when they could have done it with a regular dryer. It's dangerous. She'd always get nicks and cuts...they weren't patient with her...she'd get a weird haircut...and they were more expensive than other groomers that I have been to. I wouldn't do it!

i think it depends on your dog though. if they are ok at the groomers, then it might be ok to leave them there. but milu is shaking really scared the entire time she is there. so i will not leave her. most groomers are nice animal loving people, but what they think is not too mean to do and what i think is not too mean to do is different. but they have a job to do, and they need to do what it takes to get the job done you know. let us know if you have anymore questions
