| Microchipping???? I have a appt. on Oct. 15 to get my little Dixie spayed and microchipped. Just this weekend I have been reading a lot about microchipping and I have read from quite a few sites that it could cause health problems. Is this true? I talked to my vet about it and he says it is safe. He has been my vet for over 20 years and I trust him so much but just thought I would ask here if most of you have your little babies microchipped and have they had any problems or have you ever heard or read about problems with microchipping. I think the company they use to register the microchipping is called Home Again. Is that familiar to you as well? Thanks for any thing you could relay about this. |

| Since I just got my Yorkie yesterday, I do not have much experience with them. But my lil' Yorkie is microchipped and his previous owner said he did fine with it. He went to the vets yesterday and my vet said he was completely healthy! Yay! My dad has 3 pure bread dogs (not Yorkies), but I was brought up with them and they are all micro'ed and none of them were sick, or showed any signs of problems. My personal opinion is getting a Yorkie micro'ed is great. They are small, they can escape, so having that in them is just another way incase they do get lost that you can hopefully get them back. In my opinion, my vets and my dad's (I just texted him) we would suggest it! And since you trust your vet and had him/her for so long, I would go with their advice. Boa sorte (good luck)

| My baby is micro chipped. I have never heard of any problems concerning microchips but I guess it could be possible. The company that was offered through my vet is pet link. I hope someone else can give you more information.

| I had my 1st pup microchipped when he was neutered at 5 months and have had no problems whatsoever with it. My 2nd pup is set to get neutered this week and I will have him microchipped at that time as well. It is just one more safety precaution in my book and I would be devastated if I lost one of my little guys so anything I could do to ensure their safe return is A-OK in my book.

| Hot Rod was already microchipped when he came home to us at 4 mos old, he now 13 mos old. We've had no problems. We plan on getting Maggie May microchipped when we get her spayed.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | The only problems with microchipping I've heard of is, they can move from the original location and some studies have shown a slightly increased risk for developing tumors at the injection site. Other studies have shown this is not true.....kind of like cell phones and brain cancer...you don't know who or what to believe. I prefer tattooing over the microchip. With a tattoo the identification is seen immediately and you don't have to have the lost pet scanned. And, there are registries for tattooed pets.

| All three of my dogs are microchipped and all of my future dogs will be microchipped, too. It's necessary for their safety if they should get lost. It's sure identification that stays with them and can't get lost, like tags. My vet highly recommends it and I've never seen a dog that had any problems with it. Two of mine were chipped when they were neutered/spayed and the other one was chipped after being spayed. It's very quick and easy and she didn't even yelp. |

I have NEVER heard of microchipping being a health problem. I am all for microchipping, and its better to do it while your dog is under anesthia. Its a very big needle, and the chip itself is the size of a grain of rice. Its a very good thing to do! Just make sure you mail in the paper work to register it, or its no good!!!!

| Harley was microchipped last week when she was spayed. Being so small, she disappears pretty easily, so I felt it was the best thing to do. Maybe I should have named her Houdini. |

| Okay so what if you dont want to spay or neuter your pet but want to get him/her microchipped? Do they put the dog under for it anyway? Also what does microchipping cost where you live? I love the tattoing too. My parents actually tattoed a purebred dog they had once and someone came up into our yard and took him because they thought he belonged to them! My parents were able to identify the dog as their own because they had tattoed him on his inner thigh. Come to find out, the man that took him was the same man they had bought him from! He wanted to sell the dog and keep the money and then take the dog back for some reason to breed again, maybe? No idea. It didnt work though because of the tattoo on the dog. Its a good idea to have on your pet. |

| Getting the chip is like getting a shot: I don't understand why people wait until the pup is getting neutered ... that's a lot of time for the animal to disappear. Of course, you avoid an extra office call, but it certainly shouldn't be delayed because of thoughts of "pain"! My critters - and I've had 9 of them (dogs, cats and birds) chipped over the last 12 years or so - all get them when they go in for their regular shots or office call. Bella was only 1.5 lbs. when she was chipped, and she didn't even squeek. The birds (macaws!) didn't even have all their pin feathers yet. In the realm of "stuff", it's a nothing ... |

| I've always had my pets microchipped too (many over the years). They have all had it done as babies when getting their shots even my tiny baby ferrets! None of my pets have ever yelped/cried out or had any after effects. The first pet we had done was our family dog when I lived with my parents, she lived to the ripe old age of 18 and never had any probs due to her microchip. I'm sure there are instances as with everything, when problems arise but compared to the number of pets chipped I'm sure the risks are low. And I feel the benefits far out way any risk.

| When I got Cookie (she is only 5 pounds) I got her microchiped and I am so glad that I did because one day I had let her in and out of the house and this one time the phone rang and I saw that it was my vet and when I answered the phone she stated that she had my dog. My response was, what dog?? I knew that Cookie was in the backyard (or so I thought)...No she had found a way out and a nice lady took her to the vets and when they scanned her they found her chip and called me to let me know that they had her. I was so relieved and scared....Thank God for the chip!

| I was planning on getting my little guy chipped as well, but then I saw an article on the SPCA web site about recent articles relating tumors to microchips. They did not advise on which particular models caused the tumors. More info here.. Chip Implants Linked to Animal Tumors - washingtonpost.com VeriChip Cancer Page After reading these articles I am having second thoughts now.. |
