I've always had my pets microchipped too (many over the years). They have all had it done as babies when getting their shots even my tiny baby ferrets! None of my pets have ever yelped/cried out or had any after effects. The first pet we had done was our family dog when I lived with my parents, she lived to the ripe old age of 18 and never had any probs due to her microchip. I'm sure there are instances as with everything, when problems arise but compared to the number of pets chipped I'm sure the risks are low. And I feel the benefits far out way any risk.
