All three of my dogs are microchipped and all of my future dogs will be microchipped, too. It's necessary for their safety if they should get lost. It's sure identification that stays with them and can't get lost, like tags. My vet highly recommends it and I've never seen a dog that had any problems with it. Two of mine were chipped when they were neutered/spayed and the other one was chipped after being spayed. It's very quick and easy and she didn't even yelp.
