| ![]() To make a long story short......I went home for lunch took roscoe out to do his business, took him back in we played we ate I took him out again then put him in his cage....and CLOSED THE CAGE TIGHTLY......when my GF came home from work 4hrs later.....she opened the door and was greeted by a happy little puppy who ESCAPED!!!!!! his crate....he pooped and peed on his pee pad (which he rarely does cause we take him outside) and he must have taken his favoirte toys out of the basket cause she said they were every where......and he was probably just hanging out feeling like King of the world.......so glad nothing bad happened and i feel like a proud parent that he did his business on the pad....but my questions is whether or not anyone else has experienced this? |

| ![]() When I first got Tae I decided to crate train him and I also came home one day and he was out of his crate, and sleeping soundly on a throw blanket. He did not do any damage...and after that I never crated him again. I still have no idea how he got out... I figured I must not have loced the crate... |

| ![]() Roscoe can't get out of his crate either.....I know I locked it cause he always pushes against it and cries when you put him in before we leave......when she came home she said the door was only open a little bit.........it's a slide lock so I'm not sure how he could figure it out........he's only 15weeks and still has accidents in the house so I don't want to let him have run of the house yet. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() My husband and I leave for work at 6:00,and my two teens leave early also around 6:45 and the next 7:10. My 14 year old, last to leave swears to me she locks it up tight. Accasionally my hub can come home for luch, depending where he's woking. Aiden is frequently out, living the Life of Reilly!!!! We've actually though about setting up our camera, and trying to catch him "on tape" I live in a duplex, with my nephew and his family next door. He has a 4 year old, whom I would'nt put it past him to let Aiden out. But I've asked his mom and she swears they never even hear him even bark, and would never go over, even though they have a key etc. We are blown away!!! We just joke that it's the "GHOST" of our house that lets him out. ![]()

| ![]() a week after we got Hot Rod, I went Christmas shopping. We were definitely crate training him since he was not potty trained. Well, 2 1/2 hours later, I came home to one of the most lively and excited puppies ever greeting me at the door! I know that I locked the crate, it is a slide lock. The only thing I could think of was that he watched us lock it and he kept pushing against the lock (?) It only happened that one time. But then we got the expen shortly thereafter.

| ![]() Sebastian escaped his little crate several times when he was little. It's a slide lock and I actually saw him open it with his little paw once. He just kept pushing on it until it popped open. It was pretty amazing ![]()

| ![]() When I had my first Yorkie (Willy), I lived in an apartment with small kitchen, so I kept him in the kitchen and blocked the door with a babygate. I came home from work one day to find him proudly prancing around the house! I couldn't figure it out! He was only 6 mos old and the babygate was almost 4' tall! It looked perfectly in tact...except a sliced hole where he chewed thru the HARD plastic mesh! It was at his head level too, so it wasn't mindless chewing...it was a deliberate escape attempt!!! | ![]() Arrg! I am having the same issues! My Darwin is 5 months old and 4.9 lbs, and this week he has escaped both his baby gate 3.5 ft, and his ex pen 4 ft. He roamed the apartment all day, peed on the carpet several places, I had to put my nose down to the floor to sniff it out, didn't destroy anything, thank goodness, and proudly greeted me at the door when I got home. I am running out of ways to contain him without crating him all day while I am at work, usually for about 6 hrs. I feel really bad because he can't hold his pee all day yet, he's still very young, and he ends up peeing in his crate then laying down in it. Then today, after his escape from the ex-pen, we came home, and he ran right in front of us, and peed on the carpet again! I think because he's already peed in the apartment all day, he thinks it's ok. Before today, I thought I've had him pretty well potty trained to go outside, now I am feeling frustrated and defeated. Does anyone know of a really tall and really wide gate? Or should I just keep crating him and making him hold his pee all day??? |

| ![]() I think you should try a tall x-pen and potty pads. My yorkie does great on potty pads and he's only going on 15 weeks old. He is very smart and doesn't potty elsewhere now. We keep him out with us in the house most of the day and at night just put him in his xpen with his crate (open), food, water, bed and potty pads. Some dogs refuse to learn to go potty outside... He's not one of them but I'm glad he has learned to use the potty pads. He 'got it' only a week into potty pad training. He only had 2 pee pee accidents since then and that was a few weeks ago. :P Good luck!!

| ![]() They are definitely smart dogs. My yorkie will watch you like a hawk whenever you do something she finds interesting and then she tries her best to do it. For example, I brought her a tug-a-jug. She watched me put it together and place her treats inside. Afterwards, I left home for about two hours. When I returned, she had managed to unscrew the top, take the rope out of the jug, and of course eat all of the treats. I'm still trying to figure out how in the world she did it. She haven't got out of her excerise pen yet, but I know it's coming.

| ![]() I just wrote a post about escapee pups somewhere else on here i dont know if this will help but i use a Lindam dog gate very tall and ours cant get through it either (or the cat) but Ebony has escaped twice out of her crate but only when we have been here and its usually just after she has been put in it so i suspect it wasnt locked properly! x |

| ![]() Yet another little escapologist!!! eh! I found Suzi my puppy had done this and noticed the bottom of the crate bars are wider. I cured this by turning the crate upside down. Hugs Shirl x x |
