| What do you think about this ad? $200 Mimi is a lovely little yorkie for rehoming posted: May 31, 2008, 04:27 PM she is so cute and full of personality. good with kids and other domes. 16 weeks old and current on her shots and wormings. she will go to the best home. please contact with a description of your home if interested. see email on picture. Contact: (419) 854-**** He is asking for $200. There was a picture. It was on a craigslist type thing. I e-mailed him out of curiosity and hopeful it was real. He sais the puppy was a gift from his wife from a breeder, is AKC registered, comes with health guarantee, calm temperament, likes to sit on lap and watch TV, gets along with their cat and Rottie. They need to move and can't take the pets. Didn't mention anything about hte other two though. He asked for a description of my home and environment. I was not too specific as I did not want to give too much info. Simply said my work schedule, kind of neighborhood I live in, number of children I have and fenced yard. He said it sounded ok. didn't say much except that and the $200 rehoming fee plus $100 for the plane- which I'm not crazy about. the baby is 2.5 lbs, and expected to be about 5 full grown. My Sammy is 10 lbs. Anyway, I e-mailed him with a bunch of questions. What happens if she gets sick, provide copies of vaccination and vet receipts, akc papers, how to handle exchange of money, asked about "shipping" the puppy. She's in Iowa. I asked for picture and what kind of food she's on, just to see what he'd say. I think I asked the right things. It sounds legal to me, what about you guys. I need some opinions. My husband said we could have another one, which I was shocked at, so I'm exploring the opportunity. |

| They are shipped through an airline. Which is typically more than $100. I always shy away from these kind of ads..remember what your mom told you...if it seems too good to be true then it probably is. But if you still want to go further, maybe if he could provide you with the vet's number so you could check on the health. Take a current picture, such as with a paper with your name on it so that you know its not just a picture of a cute yorkie that was taken from a different site. I'm sure others will be chimming in on this for you...good luck!

What is other "domes"? I would sure do a lot more checking before I sent any money. Ask him to send you a picture of the pup next to a today's Iowa newspaper, or ask if it is available for pick up instead of shipping. If it's not legit they won't do either. Puppies are usually shipped cargo in a plane and I believe it costs more than $100. Not sure though, but I know most breeders charge $200 to $250 or something. I see there is a phone number. Did you talk to him on the phone? Google the number and see if it matches area, name, etc.

| Sounds like a scam. If it sounds too good, it probably is.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Well, I think it's a scam, how does he want you to send money, is it by wire, than definitely scam. Why would someone being selling a yorkie that cheap, you've got to ask yourself that.

| It sounds like a scam to me.. The first sentence sounds like broken english which is usually a sign that the supposed seller is in another country.. I actually just adopted out a yorkie that I rescued to a girl that fell for one of those scams and sent the $250 for the "teacup" yorkie and the $150 for shipping and never got her dog. After investigating, she found out the emails and ads came from Nigeria. It should probably say something like AKC female for sale or female yorkie for adoption. I would definately tell him that you and your husband decided to come and pick her up in person and see what he says. If he refuses, discontinue contact.. |

| Thanks for the suggestion. No area code 419 in IOWA. and the $100 did sound kind of cheap but I wasn't sure. I did ask for a current picture. the one on the ad looked like a "pose"- you know with the baby in front of some poster and feathers and a big bow on her head. Thanks guys. I think I'll pass on this one. |

| That very same ad is in numerous cities/states. It has to be a scam. Just paste into google this: $200 Mimi is a lovely little yorkie for rehoming. You will find over four complete pages listed with ten listings on each page. I would totally stay away from that. ETA: I would be VERY suspicious about any 200 dollar Yorkie. | Area code 419 is Toledo, Ohio but there is no 854- exchange. That is from a small town just 1 mile north of Toledo in Ohio.
