If she suddenly started doing this, and it is only with you and your mom, is it possible there is a female where she is babysat at they she may have had an issue with? Have you had anyone else in your home, both female and male adults, and has she reacted the same with them? Is she comfortable only around males now (your dad)? Just throwing out questions for you for other possibilities.
Maybe have some people over and see if she is still the same way with you or them, maybe that can give you something to work off of. It is heartbreaking when they act fearful, when you have no idea what or if, anything caused it!

Layla will go to ANYONE anywhere... females or males. But at night she has to be with my dad. And at home she will not take a treat out of my hand or my mom's.

Layla does not go to the groomers. She used to come home from there an emotional mess so for the past year I ahve been doing my own grooming. She LOVES to be groomed (what a nut!)

OMG! I do everything for them too!! I cook, clean, brush teeth, bath all of mines and the hubby is the one that "protects" them from me. That's why they go to him, to be protected from the stuff they don't like.

You have to think like a baby, wouldn't you want to go to the guy that just plays with you all the time instead of just getting cleaned or fed. How boring!

Like Squeekie, when she sees me going to the bathroom and "peeks" outside the door and listens for running water, then she runs straight to my hubby's arms! When its time to look for her, there she goes hiding under this armpit and Naboo and Wookie is hiding under his desk!

Walking is so important. It is a method of bonding. Packs of dogs in the wild walk around together. Since she is small, it doesn't need to be a marathon, just 15 minutes twice a day or a nice 30 minute stroll.

OH did not know. She just had that shot at the begining of April. and she is only fearful like that when it comes to treats... i can take a toy out of her hand and she happily will play tug of war with anyone in the house. It's a food thing it seems.

i also don't know where she would have gotten it from. Ontario is now a "rabies free" province and even if that isn't accurate she hasn't been around any other dogs but the two at the sitters and she saw my aunt's new dog about two months ago but all of these dogs are vaccinated.

Layla is so-so about my dad. She knows that he will play rough with her and she LOVES that... but ONLY when she is scared does she want him... if it is thundering or she is upset... she'll go to him.

i had no idea it was a bonding expereince. I am currently sick but once I am better we will be going on daily walks. Thanks so much! I cna't believe i didn't know that.

Maybe it is time to consider getting Layla a little sister. My Alyssa was an only child for 3 years and she acted happy around us. That was a world of people. Imagine yourself in a world where you can't communicate with the people you love using language. I think a little sister would give her a new outlook on life. It would give her someone to care about and communicate with. It sounds like she has just reached a point where she does not seem to care about a lot of things. When she goes away from home if there are other dogs or new people she is happy. At home she is just bored. I think a new little sis is just what the doctor ordered. She would learn to share and have someone to love and chase and play with.

I do not think your dog has rabies. Unless she has been bitten by a wild animal and was never vaccinated. Two highly unlikely scenarios!

On the other hand, she could have vaccinosis. If she got her yearly rabies in April, it would make sense that symptoms would come out now. Vaccinosis is when instead of making an immune system toughen up against an illness, the vaccinated individual sometimes exhibits symptoms from an illness.

My Cav has rabies vaccinosis and doesn't grow hair on his tummy, it is as bald as can be, not even peach fuzz. He also got a really insane prey drive after that vaccine. I had to detox him, go on a raw diet, go to a homeopath to detox further...it was a long road, but he is ok. His tummy is still bald, but thats it. I wouldn't jump to a vaccinosis conclusion until you give a few weeks try of walks & obedience training.

Getting a sister is not something we can do right now. Our lifestyle is very busy and we are always on the go. we are able to do it with one, but we would not be able to do it with two. And Layla definitly does not have a boring life at home. We are always in the backyard playing or visiting our neighbours or just playing in the house. We are not home often so it is usually home to eat, play and then bed.

Sounds like she's pretty smart and possibly choosing grandpa over mom and grandma. Sophie gets grumpy and will sometimes ignore me and choose my hubby over me.

I didn't know either and I thought, yeah right. My 2.7 lb Yorkie mix doens't need walks. But she was a rescue and extremely standoffish. She was not trusting. My husband and I started walking her with my Cavalier instead of carrying her and all of a sudden, she blossomed into the sweetest little love button.

It is incredibly powerful and these little Yorkies can walk more then we give them credit for. My Ella Bean gives my 12 lb. Cavalier a run for his money!!

aww.. a bald belly

like i said earlier... it's only a fear of treats from our hands at home. It doesnt have anything to do with toys from our hands and she is fine when i mess around with her food while she is eating (been doing that since the day we got her)
