It can be anything from stress (believe it or not)...foods...allergies...or a something they may have caught from another cat or geneticly.

Our vet here is very intrested! Legally she cannot tell you to do something without an examination, but we can offer suggestions until you get them to another vet and pass on some first hand knowledge!

Kittens are being fed by momma...they are young. No allergies because it would then be happening on the grey as well. Remember...only on the white. My vet has NEVER seen anything like it. Everytime he thinks it may be something it gets ruled out because of these things:

It is only on the white.
Grey is normal
Mom doesn't have any of it
They weren't born with it
Can't be the sun otherwise it would be on the grey as well.
Can't be such and such otherwise it would be contagious and they would all have it.

It goes on and on. He has no clue and he is a old vet. I am waiting to see if the Vet Research Center can figure it out. I thought in the meanwhile I would ask.

I assume these are domestic short hairs? Anyway I have seen this happen in cornish rex felines. The gray or pigmented hair stayed intact,while the white seemed to slowly fade away to skin. The pigment on the skin remained pink but all white areas of hair gone.. I wonder if animals can develope alopecia( autoimmune disorder) but why the white and not the gray? Interesting..Can't wait to hear what this may be..good luck.

I'm speaking as a totally unqualified person as far as cats go but this strikes me as similar to the 'blue' Yorkie. In those dogs, the areas with the gold hair are normal with the coat growing normally but the dark areas (saddle and haunches) have almost no hair and the skin has a noticeable blue color. The skin can have a rough texture. I've read that it can be painful for the dog and they tend to not live a full life. It's a genetic anomaly.

I will be talking to my vet tomorrow and I will post if he has found out anything. It is very mysterious.

Just wanted to let Marc know I have seen something similar before. Since the vet has not responded yet. Maybe she needs to research it further..Im done with this thread. Too catty..no pun intended..haha

My observations of her website from a rescue perspective:

1. Has an rescue intact male on the site
2. Shipped dogs all over the US and I am going to assume with no home visit
3. Shipped a dog to the dominican republic - they have over 90,000 strays not including Haiti. Most dogs are either shot, poisoned or hit by cars in this country.
4. Posted a rescue from a dog auction-the dogs are not free from a dog auction
5. Is adding to the pet overpopulation

While any animal control will tell you that they know 50% of the dogs they adopt out will be returned they at least feel 50% will be saved and in many cases they are required by law to move the dogs/cats in so many days or euthanize them. I am a strong believer in home visits as a way to see if this is a perfect fit for the rescue. Any reputable rescue or animal control will also spay/neuter the rescue animals.

I will let all of you decide but I will never forget my vet telling me about a survey that was done with the AVA and that 50% of the vets got into this business as a way to make money and not for their love of animals.
