| ![]() I see everyone talking about them on here. Can't we just use paper? and won't it be hard to train them to go outside? They are expensive too!!! ![]() |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() 2 of mine use pee pads 2 go outside. I can't get the two who use pads to go outside to potty. I used them because it was to hard to get them out in the winter when they were puppies. If you are home and can take him out frequently you may want to train outside. But you will need to take him out at night too. Pads are convenient but I prefer outside training if possible. My son lives ina na apartment and his dog is papertrained to actual newspaper as they cannot afford pee pads and it works ok.

| ![]() The only reason I use puppy pads is because I keep Bear in a play yard. It's for overnight use only&for when I'm not at home. I agree, puppy pads are hella expensive&they go through them so quickly! I'm training Bear right now to go outside because I don't want him trained on pads. I've read that you can use newspaper though, but you have to be careful about that because the ink can be toxic ![]() |

| ![]() I am home most of the time, so both of mine go outside more than using pee pads...but we found that having washable pee pads are great to have in the house. We have four that we bought from YT member Little Bit (Nancy). I think they were $12...and they are washable and last for a very long time. Cheaper then the disposable ones!

| ![]() Well we trained our last yorkie with paper in less than a month. 100% trained. That was 15 years ago though and pee pads were not around. |

| ![]() Franklin and Maggie both on pee pads AND outside. The only reason why I would prefer pads instead of just paper is one (like someone already listed) -- the ink leaks through and can stain the floor, and two -- it's absolutely NOT absorbent which is great for poop but pee will soak right through it all over your floor, leaving you with a wet stinky puddle EVERYTIME they pee on it.

| ![]() Usually it won't be easy to train a dog that is trained to go potty on a pad to start going outside, and vice versa. It can be done though. For Rocky we take him outside. I prefer to take them outside, but Bella is really small and since she has no hair, I don't want to take her out during the winter because it's too cold for her, so she goes on the pads. I wouldn't use newspaper either because I imagine it would soak through. I think it really depends on the dog as to what is better, outside or the pads. Another thing, Bella has A LOT more accidents. If we don't change the pad right away, she will find somewhere else to pee. Also, if we move the pad she still pees in that exact same spot, but on my carpet

| ![]() I used pee pads when we first brought Pookie home. And yes, you do need to use something that has a backing on it so it doesn't leak through and go everywhere. Just as soon as Pookie got adjusted to being home with us I took the pee pads away and just took him outside frequently. It was hard because it was in the winter and he didn't want to go out. But... we made it. He's 5 mo now and has very few accidents. He waits until I take him out. I didn't want him to get accustomed to peeing inside, so he didn't have them very long.

| ![]() We never used a pee pad. Paisley goes outside. I knew I wanted her to go outside to take care of business so I didn't want her to think it was ok to pee or poop in the house.

![]() They love to potty outside. But I don't like to go out in the rain or snow nor do I like wet paws. ![]() Little Bit's washable pads are awesome. The cute prints actually can "go with" the decor, many don't even show the potty spots, don't smell, wash easily, and, while not as much as outside, are environmentally better than pads. ![]()

You can use newspaper, but it needs to be placed on plastic to keep moisture from going through. Or you could just place newspaper on a disposable pad and throw away soiled paper. I thought I was the only one who even got the newspaper anymore. ![]()
