![]() YT is a wonderful place, full of info and mostly full of people who just love their yorkies, whether they be pet quality or show quality or breeding quality. You can't come on, new and start throwing out insults like that. Maybe YT could be a place where you could learn some things also. ![]() I agree that when dogs are overbreed the quality of the breed goes down. Health problems occur and overall its just not a good thing. Thats what happened with Goldens years back.

Any 'Joe' on the street can see the prices for yorkies and figure "Hey - I can make a buttload of money selling yorkie puppies - LOOK HOW MUCH they go for !" .....so ...the cycle starts ....and they breed without a CLUE. The dogs suffer in the end and the people who love them.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() No matter how good planning you do, things can happen. This is true for everything in life. I pray to GOD nothing happens to Guinness that he would need $10K in vet bills because I don't think I'd be able to pay that, but my 15 yr old Cocker Spaniel could have done that, too, I don't regret one day adopting her and I don't regret my Guinness McLovin either. nobody needs to inform me of my banking as long as I'm taking care of MY family, which includes my 2cats and 2 dogs and my 2 little boys. I'm continue to prepare for the worse the best way I can and hope for the very best. This is a support board on how we can take care of our babies, and offer support for in case those bad situations DO happen.

I know what it takes to be a breeder after talking and being around them for 6 years...which is why I'm NOT a breeder - but, I AM a consumer. I see what's going on with 'certain' types of breeders. I'll say it again - if done right - it should cost a GOOD breeder who sells at a fair price - the same as a breeder who asks very very high prices. Either way - if both do the same things - tests etc - there isn't really that much difference in price .....yet one will price their puppies out of this world - and the other will look for the best home & sell at a fair price. we're talking GOOD breeders here - not the average joe blow who seems to be popping up everywhere these days - My comments were only about OVER pricing / pricing dogs right out of good homes.

| ![]() Wow!!!...what a charged topic. To me, the most important thing is health. A sick dog is never a bargain, no matter the price or pedigree. The thing about yorkies is that they change so much from puppy to adult. It's very hard to know what that cute puppy will turn out like so it's very easy to be misled about what you're actually getting. Looking at the parents only gets you so far and can be misleading. Health testing of the parents is no sure fire way to guarantee a healthy puppy. Liver shunt can skip many generations before being expressed in a pup. And just because a pup comes from show lines doesn't necessarily mean a better, healthier or cuter pup. Not all show line pups are show quality, some are far from it. The breed is less than 200 years old and many throwback traits are still being expressed. Line breeding to weed out undesirable traits can create set in health issues due to lack of genetic diversity. I think the best thing for the average buyer is to not buy a Yorkie pup less than 3 months old. By that time, you can get a fair idea of what the pup will look like as an adult. Of course, you must still find an honest breeder that is truthful about their dogs and doesn't just tell you what they think you want to hear. People without much experience with Yorkies are at such a disadvantage if they happen across a dishonest breeder. My experience has been that, with Yorkies, you get what you pay for, if you're lucky. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
