Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() They WILL try for small pets - I know someone who lost her little yorkie and she was right there with her - devestating !! ![]() ![]() please be careful and stay right with them - it wouldn't hurt to use a leash till the season is over - if it's ever over ....that way they're always close to you. too bad you can't rig some kind of enclosed area for them - complete with cover |

| ![]() We have hawks, too. I watched one behead one of our chickens. Another time one flew over my head low enough that I could see he had a large fish from the nearby lake. I also had one fly over my truck as I was driving and dropped whatever it had onto my windshield. I darn near wrecked. Scared the crap out of me! But I know they could take a Yorkie. ![]()

| ![]() A hawk scooping up my baby is my biggest fear! ![]() I never let him outside alone for this very reason and he is always on his leash for walks and potty. I am so paranoid when I take him out to go potty that I am constantly looking up in the sky to make sure there aren't any around. My neighbors must think I hear voices or I am running from the law or something ![]() I just ordered one of those umbrella leash things (see pic below) to use in the spring/summer when there seems to be more Hawks around (and for rain too). I figured it would protect him and act like a shield LOL. I can hear my neighbors now..."oh look at poor Zeus now his crazy mom thinks its raining even when the suns out" Oh Well...it'll give them something to talk about! I've also read that people put up those plastic owls or animated (motion sensing) owls to keep other hunting birds and pests away, but I'm not sure if they work! As far as backyard play time the only I can think of is buying one of those Gazebo things and putting some fencing around the sides so they can play outside while remaining covered and safe. We got a cool one for our deck at Target last year at the end of June for 75% off so you may wanna wait for a month or two for the price to drop. ![]()

| ![]() I have the same problem, but I live in subdivision just on outskirts of Summerville, SC. A hawk noticed my very feeble, blind 17-year-old Yorkie outside one day last summer. Luckily, I was watching Casey because he was old and blind. I saw a shdaow crossing my yard several times. I ran to pick Casey up. It was a hawk. Casey died in my arms late August. I now have another rescue Yorkie. The hawk has not forgotten. I don't dare let Daley out that I don't stay close. I have no idea what to do. Would love suggestions. |

| ![]() Please be careful... maybe try an owl posted in the yard it is suppose to keep most birds out. I put one and I dont have any problems and we still have lots of fields around us. But I do know people who have lost their babies to hawks ...
