They WILL try for small pets - I know someone who lost her little yorkie and she was right there with her - devestating !!
please be careful and stay right with them - it wouldn't hurt to use a leash till the season is over - if it's ever over ....that way they're always close to you.
too bad you can't rig some kind of enclosed area for them - complete with cover
