| Lepto Vaccine Helllllp Sorry guys for posting another Lepto question, just very very concerned. I finally brought our little girl home on Saturday and took her in for a vet visit on yesterday. Vet is recommending the Lepto vaccine for her because we reside in a very rural part of Mississippi. I've read several threads against this vaccine. Please help. Need lots of advise |

| I don't have any advice really because it is a hard decision and if I say don't get it and your dog gets lepto, then I would feel horrible. If I said do get it and your dog goes into shock or even worse, then I would feel horrible. I will say this. I would not give it before 16 weeks and I would give it separately (not with any other vaccines or in a combo) if I got it at all. Don't let your vet pressure you into anything and you can ask him/her for the statistics of how many dogs have gotten it in your state.

| I can't give any advice except that my mom is a breeder and DOES NOT give the lepto. She used to until two puppies died from it the same week. She went to our vet who does not recommend giving the Lepto Vaccine. So, since then we have never ever given lepto to our dogs or puppies. Good luck in finding the info you need.

| I just took Sawyer in for his yearly check up and shots. The last time, I told the vet I did not lepto, and they had to get a certain shot that came without it. This time, I told them I have a new puppy coming Thursday, and that when I came in for his shots, I did Needless to say, I canceled the bear hunt, and skipped it not want the lepto again. My vet laughed and said, We do not give Lepto anymore to these little dogs unless it is requested. So unless I was going to take my dogs bear hunting, or living on the land in the deep forest, I should be just fine without it. So I would use your own judgement on where your dog will be, and how exposed to Lepto he will be. I only use flea medicine when we are out in our motorhome for the summer. Anything that has the potential to kill, and is not specifically needed ( like heart worm meds), I am very lax to use on my little guys. Hope this helps

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | My advice being i just went thru this is this....Ask what company makes the vaccine...IF it is Pfizer (sp?) I trust that one as does my vet. If it is made by Fort Dodge NO you can research on line the companies if you like but those rare the 2 compaines currently making this vaccine. I chose to go ahead and get the vaccine being there was 5 cases in the City I live in and not in the country nut in the actual city....Hope that helps!

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Oh and i forgot to mention Lepto can show up in ponds...rivers...and puddles...A medium sized dog just died in our city from it and he lived in an 4 level apartment in the city his dog only walked city streets and LOVED puddles...Its very scary.

| I just asked my Abby's breeder about the lepto vaccination on Friday and she said she does not give it to her dogs, so I won't be giving it to Abby unless my vet can convince me, absolutely, positively that the chances of her getting lepto are higher than her getting sick from being vaccinated.

Donating YT Addict | also ask if your Baby can get 1/2 cc rather than the normal 1cc dosage. The 1cc is a blanket dose for all size dogs. If you do get it I would also hang around the vet's office for 1/2 hour or so after to be safe. I did not give it b/c it isn't a very large threat here but if it was I think would get the 1/2 dose..

| Franklin has had it before with no problems although we've decided to stop giving it to him unless the need arises.
