| ![]() The problem is how the puppies/dogs are kept and cared for. Would it be a problem if all the dogs were kept in proper conditions and received proper care? It isn't the dogs, it's how they are kept. Although I don't like mass production, it's how the dogs are treated that is the problem and there are laws on the books saying they have to be treated well, but those laws aren't enforced. |

| ![]() Until I joined YT, I had never heard of a dog auction.. in Canada as far as I know. Quebec is the province that do not have any laws about puppy mills... so most stay clear of buying a puppy from there.... |

Goodness, yes! I would love to see all of them shut down. I don't go to the sites any more. I cry and then can't sleep. It just breaks my heart.

| ![]() I was the same way...But if we aren't educated on what is going on..how can we help??? I had no idea about dog auctions...until I started to read..and study..now I'm learning all kinds of things...yes I cry...yes I have a hard time getting it off my mind..but someone has to be compassionate about these animals...if not...it's never going to get better!!!

| ![]() The FDA can't even take care of us let alone puppymill inspections. They don't have the man power to do this and truthfully I don't think it's a priority for them. Government chooses to ignore this. If anything it needs to go state by state. Contacting state legislators in your state and keep bringing it to their attention over and over. IMO the word "politics" says it all and I think you know what I mean by that. Sad to say but look at our country and the state it is in. Laws need to be changed but it's along road to hoe. It needs to start at the state level and educating people about the horrors of mills. Everyone I come in contact with who is willing to listen I give them an earful. Our little yorkie came from a mill with over four hundred dogs, I can't even go there in my mind. I look at him every day and am so grateful we adopted him. ![]() |

I am educated. I am caring and compassionate and hurt because of what I know. I adopted a rescue Chihuahua. I don't have a lot of money to contribute or spend at auctions and am not physically able to go out and hunt down puppy mills. I am not able to take in more rescues. I do pay attention to legislation and have written my congressmen and asked them to do something about puppy mills. What can we do from day to day besides educate people as much as we can and not patronize stores that sell dogs and cats? I have written letters to the editor and have information on my web site. I talk and speak out. I have donated money and helped find homes for rescued animals. I don't see any need to go to every site and read all the sad things and see all the videos. I already know!

To get the laws enforced, the people in charge need to make it a priority, and puppy mills aren't a priority. The USDA is up to its ears in other matters and puppy mills are way at the bottom of the list. I have written to my legislators and keep doing so. If you have a legislator that you know is intrested in closing puppy mills, give him/her lots of support. These people running puppy mills make a lot of money and money talks. They are working just as hard to stop legislation that would close them down as we are to get that legislation passed or enforced. We need stronger punishment for those who are convicted of animal neglect or cruelty. A slap on the wrist and a move to another location doesn't even slow the puppy millers down. It's a very big, tangled problem with no quick fix. And as someone said previously, if all the puppy mills were suddenly closed down, a lot of dogs/puppies would be left with no where to go and a lot of them would have to be put down. Compared to the other problems in the world today, it's hard to get people interested in closing down puppy mills. It breaks my heart, but so does cruelty to children and American soldiers dying in a war and lots of other things. There are many things to get concerned about and puppy mills just don't rank at the top most of the time.

| ![]() Until the laws are changed, the auctions will continue. Buying from the auctions is counter intuitive, we need to stop folks from purchasing from the auctions. Some folks would picket and try to educate those entering the auction, but there are some that will still go there to get a 'bargain basement baby'. Very sad for the dogs that are bred repeatedly until they no longer produce enough puppies and are then discarded like yesterday's newspaper.
