YT 2000 Club Member | Question on a breeder I am looking at getting a little girl yorkie soon and I have found a breeder here in Ohio that I have been e mailing. Her puppies will be ready to come home mid April. How do I find out information to check her out. My husband does not want to get our hopes up too much if things do not work out.I was going to see if she could give me references herself, how would be a nice polite way to ask her? So far things look good but I want to be sure. Thanks

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Is she listed with the YTCA site? That would be a good place to start. If she is, chances are that she will have a website. If she does and there are no red flags on the site, then google and search back as far as you can. PM who you consider reputable breeders on here and inquire if they are aware of her. As far as asking for references, that shouldn't be an insult and I would think they would want to be forthcoming with names as they would be proud of their reputation and have several satisfied owners.

| I would just ask for references....this should not be offensive at all. I have a bad habit of using my hubby (when he's not there) as an excuse for things like this. Like, 'my husband wanted me to ask if you have references?' I always make sure it's true, first, so I'm not telling an untruth. lol If you're uncomfortable asking, maybe you could do this. |

YT 2000 Club Member | Thanks for the information, I did end up asking nicely for reference and she was very nice. I called a few people and so far no problems She was great with my questions too, she said that she likes that I am asking all the right ones and I even offered her information on myself with out her asking for it She did say that she was going to call our vet just to make sure it all good on my end too. So Hopefully in the middle of April I will be getting my Girl!

| This is a great place to put the name out there and see if anyone from YT got their babies from her!

to ask questions of a breeder is no more unreasonable than for all us breeders to ask a bazillion questions about where our babies are going - as a matter of fact i am suspicious of someone that doesn't ask questions. I have found that its either a pet shop or someone totally unfit for my babies if they are willing to just buy -no questions asked but since i never sell that way , it doesn't work with me and as a buyer you have as much right to investigate the seller as the breeder has a right to check the buyer . So just make a list of questions then call or email - then you won't leave out important things and right after you get off the phone or computer realize you didn't ask several or even one thing that was improtant to you. write down the answers she gives you so there is no misunderstanding - or you can even do all this by email even though i always follow up with a phone call as i can learn a great deal by the actual voice contact . It would be good to ask about her on here as surely someone has done business with her. Does this help ? Good luck and i hope you have a new baby soon.
