| crate I was just wondering how many of you put your yorkies in a crate while at work, I do that b/c I am scared to death of Gizzie chewing a cord or getting into something she has no business being in...... but I cant help but feel terrible for her being in there. Its a bigger crate, the ones for a 70 lb dog and she is only 2.5 lbs so she has room for her food/water bowls wee pad, her bed, toys Is this something many of you do and do you feel bad too

| I just gate Teddi in half of the kitchen while I am gone. When I am home she has free reign of the house and if I just go out for a little while at nite I let her run around and play with my other dog. I just think that all day is too long to let her run free (plus she would drive my older dog crazy all day and she needs a break from her!).

| I work from home so they are lucky to be free most of the time but when I go out I use a crate. I have one for each of my babies. When we brought Blaze home I kept him in a childs pack n play (playpen) because I could not watch him every second of he day so when I knew he would be unsupervised he went in there. Now that he is house broken he goes in the crate! They actually like it in there. I did leave Autumn loose once and she did just what you said, ate the cord to my electric blanket......thankfully it was not plugged in!

| Unfortunately, I have Bella and Chloe in their own separate crates. They have extra of room since I got their crates a little big. I don't feel as guilty now as I first did. They even go in there at night to lay down sometimes. I tried gating them separately in our big master bath but it didn't work. I think Chloe about had a nervous breakdown during the day. When I came home she had partially knocked down a gate and had chewed and bent the wires at the bottom of the gate. Evidently she climbed it and got out. Because she partially knocked the gate over, little Bella got out too through the bottom. That was the end of the gating them. Tried x-pens too but Chloe is my monkey and she climbed that after 2 days.

| Maddie usually goes to work with me, or else I keep her in an upstairs bathroom that is larger. I know a lot of people who keep them in crates while they are at work. I thinks it good cause you got the bigger one too. I'm sure she is fine, we just worry. How many hours is she in the crate. |

| My 3 stay in an x-pen when I'm gone. They have toys, blankies, pee pad and water bottle. I come home at lunch to let them out for a bit. They have the run of most of the apt. 'only' when I'm home

| I too gate off half of the kitchen and that has worked great for Rudy. My son feels guilty about it but I just say he just chills and sleeps most of the day anyway.. he gets his play time / run time when we get home.. I do feel a bit guilty if we end up going out at nite (which isnt alot) but he seems to be fine.. I would rather feel a bit bad about keeping him gated off during the day than feel horrible if he got into something and getting hurt because i felt guilty and let him have full run of the house.. Good luck with your decision..

| My little guy is in a crate while we are at work, and at night while we sleep. Granted, we've had him for less than a week and he's VERY VERY young - not even three months yet! I get him up when I get up in the mornings, and keep him kind of confined where his non-crate potty pad is until he potties. Then he gets to run and play for an hour until we leave for work. He does whine a bit at that point, but I'm reasonably sure that is because he's still awake and he's not completely used to our schedule. When we get home, he gets loves and cuddles, confined until he potties on the pad. Then free run (well, he never gets free run in the kids' rooms - they wouldn't have any toys left) !!! He usually runs and plays for a couple hours after we get home, then takes a little nap, then plays for a couple more hours, then falls asleep right around 9 or 9:30. Then he goes in the crate for the night. My husband tried to make me feel guilty about this, but I am doing it as much for his safety as anything else. I don't want him to get hurt while we're not home or asleep. I also don't want him making messes or tearing things up because then my hubby might want us to get rid of him! He knows it's where he sleeps, and he has even climbed into his crate and into his bed for his little naps during the day by himself. It's his place ... it's where his bed, food, water, and potty box are (though he does prefer to potty on the pad outside the cage ... or on the carpet). Anyhow, I guess the long story short is: yes I crate my baby at night and during the day, but I don't think it's wrong - nor does it make me a bad puppy parent! Diana |

Therapy Dog Donating Member | While at work Izzy is in her huge x-pen with Animal Planet on. Inside that x-pen on one side are her pee-pads and then on the other side is her hooded bed, food, toys, etc. The x-pen is down in our family room with carpet and she never pees on the carpet only the pee pads so that's good for us. Also the cat peeps come down to keep her company too. We are gone a long time and she's always so good....even if I knew she could hold her pee/poo in all day I wouldn't let her free....I'm so scared that she could get into something by accident. This way I know she is safe and sound. I was also reading another thread about pet-cams and I am thinking about that too.

| Bleu Boy Is In A Crate When We Are Away Never For More Than 4 Hours At A Time Though.. He Loves His Crate (house) I Introduced It To Him Very Early We Play With His House In And Out With Treats And He Is Not Uncomfortable Nor Does He Feel Punished When We Leave Him It Is His Domain In The Evenings On His Own While We Are Watching Tv He Will Go Get In His House On His Own Which Is A Big Crate... He Has Become Dominant Of His House He Is Very Comfortable And He Feels Safe .. He Does Not Soil His Crate Or Blanky Or Toys.. I Think If You Introduce The Crate To Your Baby And Play With Him Or Her Involving The Crate They Adjust Easier.... I Would Put The Crate On My Tummy And He Would Run Up In It To Get A Treat.. Just Different Things You Can Do Play Peek Aboo Of Sorts And They Get All Jumpy And Hyper And Will Run In It... So Bleu Associates Playing And Fun With His Crate So When I Put Him In It He Is Not Scared Or Afraid Nor Does He Feel Punished.. I Also Changed Out His Toys .. Dont Give Your Baby A Bunch Of Toys Give One Or 2 At A Time Then The Next Time Take Those Out And Give Different Toys.. Yorkies Have A Short Attention Span So They Need To Be Entertained So Switch Off Toys And It Will Keep Their Attention Longer Since You Are Going To Be Gone! Hope This Helps

| That way you know she is safe and her welfare is the most important thing. Mine comes to work with me sometimes, but when she doesn't she isn't home alone anyway. She will be three in April and doesn't get into anything now.
