I too gate off half of the kitchen and that has worked great for Rudy. My son feels guilty about it but I just say he just chills and sleeps most of the day anyway.. he gets his play time / run time when we get home.. I do feel a bit guilty if we end up going out at nite (which isnt alot) but he seems to be fine.. I would rather feel a bit bad about keeping him gated off during the day than feel horrible if he got into something and getting hurt because i felt guilty and let him have full run of the house..
