Anytime she put her mouth on me at all, I would "yelp" VERY loudly (my roomies thought it was hilarious), but she VERY quickly learned that was a BIG no-no. Now anytime she gets over stimulated, or excited she will go grab a toy to mouth it instead. | |

everyone is entitled to their opinions no matter what. I'm sorry people are PMing you and being rude. its uncalled for and unnecessary. No one knows everything about dogs. eaglez28 didn't started this thread to cause controversy. She wanted opinions not "the pit bull debate"

| For me it is not the breed, but the size of a dog...I would not allow a 75 pound Yorkie around a 5 pound Pitt Bull if they existed...I am plain scared and could not live with any dog who is powerful enough to kill me... |

| Ok, I know which "word" your talking about. I use that with any of mine if they are doing something they aren't supposed to (like getting into the trash can) |

| I had just posted this the other day on both Yorkie Times and Just for Yorkies. I don't remember if I posted it here or not. This is my experience, but I think Twizzler is an exceptional pit bull and not neccessarily the norm. She has been well trained by DIL and for all I know could have been bred specifically for good temprament. Here's what I posted elsewhere: "I swear! My son's pitbull, Twizzler, thinks she's a Yorkie. If that's not enough, she thinks she's the mother of my Yorkie's. Caesar and Lucy don't mind. They grew up with her here, but then my son moved. Just before he moved from here he got a Norwegian Elkhound puppy, Loki. Loki is now 11 month old. Twizzler must be close to 5 years old. Yesterday was only the second time his family's brought their dogs since I got Cookie and Ciara. When they got here, Indie squealed and hid whenever either dog came near him and Cookie and Ciara snapped at their noses. Loki harrassed poor Ciara because she was in heat. Twizzler protected the Yorkies from Loki and by the end of the evening they(except for Caesar) were hiding behind her. She growled and snapped at Loki whenever he got to close to ANY of her babies (including Caesar). My family thinks it's hilarious to see me in my recliner with all five Yorkies, but it's even funnier when Twizzler joins us. When Twizzler lived here, I could barely leave the house with Caesar and Lucy and when I got back she had to check them out and lick them all over to make them smell right. She is such a funny Yorkie Momma." Also, when Twizzler lived her, she played very gently with the Caesar and Lucy. I am not saying that all pitbulls will be like this. I had a pitbull mix I had to get rid of because she almost killed two of my other dogs. I just think it depends on the dog and I'm not sure you can tell with a puppy what it's behavior will be when it's grown. I think you will have to be very careful until you know the pitbull's adult disposition and even then, their dispositions can change. The pitbull mix I had didn't become aggressive with the other dogs until sometime after she was about 2 years old. |

| You always have to be prepared also. I think when big dog owners in general get in trouble is when they always think "My baby wouldnt hurt anyone!" You have to remember no matter how much we love them, they still are animals, we still can't talk to them, or know what they are thinking. You always have to be prepared. Even with 5lbs Chloe, I know when a stranger is coming she may be mean even though she wouldn't hurt anyone. |

| My daughter had a American Staffordshire Terrier a couple of years ago that was super friendly. Her neighbors had a little Pom that had been around the Staff plenty of times and they got along great. One night the neighbor lady came to my daughters house holding the Pom, apparently the neighbor had the smell of deer on her because they had just got back from hunting and cleaning a deer. The Staff grabbed the Pom and locked his jaws on the poor Pom. My daugher could not get the Staff to let go of the poor dog until finally the husband of the neighbor came in and yelled at the Staff and he let go. Fortunately the Pom did not die but he was hurt. The point is I, personally, would never trust a little Yorkie with any big dog. One of my babies I sold several years ago was killed accidentally by a lab while they were playing. The Yorkie got he neck broke. It is just not worth the risk. |

| We have a Yorkie and a German Shepherd. They get along great and are best buds. That being said there is no way that I would ever own a Pit. I don't think they can be trusted regardless of how they are raised. I know that there are many kinds of dogs that can do damage to a Yorkie. This breed bothers me the most. If you do decide to get a Pit then make sure the whole family is willing to help train him or her. I hope things go well for you.

| What would worry me is that no matter how much training a dog has, each breed has certain instincts that are bred into them. I have had poodles a breed that was originally bred to be hunting dogs, they loved water and retrieved anything you could throw for hours. My yorkie who is only a year old and the only thing she knows is being pampered and wearing bows and dresses, went crazy trying to climb the tree after a squirrel last week like a terriers were originally bred to do. Her hunt for a rodent seemed so natural, I certainly never trained her to do that. While she chasing the squirrel my Chihuahua never bothered to look the squirrels direction. If a pit is bred to fight could it possibly turn on a smaller child or dog not out of meanness but instinct.

Well, we are not 100% POSITIVE that she has Pit Bull in her, but I we are pretty darn sure of it. Let me also add, that we didn't really know this when we "rescued" her. She just showed up at my house and was starving and thirsty, and we took her in because we felt so sorry for her. She is a very sweet dog, but she DOES have some aggression issues when it comes to food. She actually bit my Mini Doxie twice (once drawing blood, it was on her nose)....BUT - my Mini Doxie eggs her on She is REALLY bad about doing that. She will constantly bug her (the Pit mix) and try to steal her food, and the Pit mix just got sick of it a couple of times and basically let her have it. It was very scary though as I could NOT get her off my Mini Doxie...and she was going for her throat. Very, VERY scary. Finally my husband came out and got everything under control but needless to say I was shaking - like a LEAF.She is totally fine otherwise - she just does not like other dogs bothering her while she is eating. One other thing though, is that she is EXTREMELY protective over her territory. She is an outside dog, and I know some people don't agree with keeping dogs outside (and thats ok) - but anyway, lets just say that on more than one occasion, she almost ate the meter reader LOL. I have never seen a meter reader run so fast in my life from my yard LOL. Poor guy!Anyhow, if you want my personal opinion, I myself would not leave a Pit alone with my Yorkies...but that is just me. My brother had 2 full blooded Pits, got them when they were puppies and raised them himself every since they were tiny. He has a step-daughter at home (she was about 5 or 6 at the time) and after having them for several years, they finally turned on her one day out of the blue. Mind you, she grew up around these dogs as well and they knew her very, very well. After they bit her, he had no choice but to re-home them. He was not ABOUT to put her in danger. I say that in the end, the decision is yours...but just think long and hard about it. If it were ME, I wouldn't do it - but there are plenty people out there, I'm sure, that would totally disagree with me on this. Good luck!!

| I think a yorkie would be fine with some large breeds.I have 50.5 pound,52 pound and 55 pound english bulldog puppies. They all get along perfect! Ya i agree pitbulls will be fine if trained properly but i also think people do jump conclusions too quickly on them. |
