You are right about that. Look at the prices they get for the "designer" mixes!

| I sell my pet puppies on a spay and neuter contract with limited registration period...I do not release papers until I have proof of spay from a vet on their letter head...once you get the papers if you choose not to register them it doesn't matter to me because you can't breed them anyway but my yorkies are registered with AKC and the dam and sire I have now are both champions and have mulitple champions in their lines and I don't want my mentors lines ruined by someone breeding my pups. Now, when I place a pet pup they will be spayed or neutered before leaving my house! My first yorkie was akc but I never sent in papers because I had her spayed and before I learned anything the breeder (unethical I might add) gave me breeding rights but I wanted a pet and after I had to put her to sleep at age 7 because of genetic issues that's when I became so passionate about this breed and learned everthing I could and I'm still learning...And also, I wouldn't ever sell a show dog with breeding rights without first getting permission from both my dam and sire's breeders! | I had the same thing happen to me and never did get the papers. I am now sure that the breeder was not on the up and up and I should have been more diligent in my search for my first Yorkie. When we got our second, I did a little research, got his pedigree copy and knew what I was getting. We love them both and no one knows that one has papers and one does not. We also had an accidental litter and love the babies even more! We have new homes for 3 of the 4 but are still looking for the right person for the last little guy. I now have appointments for spaying and neutering so this does not happen again. |

| Well, if they could, what I'm saying is they would have already done it, as there are a lot of them that do do that.. |

Oh, I see what you were saying.. I misunderstood sorry. So the AKC does not allow a breeder to sell puppies in a litter from one registered and one unregistered dog, but it's ok to sell pups from a litter of 2 registered dogs of different breeds?

however, AKC does not regulate how many breeds a breeder breeds or even if they breed mixes. You could breed two AKC registered purebreds together to make a mixed breed litter, but AKC will not register them if they are mixed. If there is a question to whether or not a puppy is purebred or not, AKC will require a DNA test

That's why it makes no sense to me why people pay for mixes.

| To answer your question better, the AKC is only a registry. It does not regulate the sale of puppies. A breeder could sell the puppies of an AKC and non-AKC for $10,000 if they could get it. The puppies just couldn't be registered with the AKC since both parents weren't AKC. Does that answer your question? |
